OUR STORY AND WHO WE ARE
Avye is now a 18-year-old student and passionate about Tech. In 2018, already a coder, maker and workshop leader she came up with the idea of organising coding events for girls, after repeatedly observing that most attendees at her workshops were boys. She was determined to encourage more girls to give STEM a go. As a result, she decided to set up β€˜Girls Into Coding’, a series of events targeting girls. Girls into Coding provides extracurricular opportunities for girls between the ages of 10 and 14. We’ve created workshops events to immerse young people in a range of tech & engineering activities. Girls into Coding is a Community Interest Company (CIC) and is regulated by the CIC regulator since February 2020.

3 days to go. πŸ‘€

Our next event is at Civo Tech Junction, and we cannot wait.

Girls aged 10 to 14 will be hands-on, building, coding, and experimenting with robotics and physical computing, plus inspiring guest speakers. The kind of afternoon where confidence grows, curiosity takes over, and something just clicks.

A huge thank you to LSEG and WINtech for supporting this event, and to Civo Tech Junction for being such an incredible home for our community.

Sunday, we go again. πŸ’›

What a day 🌟

Yesterday, our girls showed up, built things, asked questions, and reminded us exactly why we do this work.

Thank you to City Bridge Foundation for making this event possible, and to Civo Tech Junction for opening your doors and creating such an incredible space for our community.

The girls explored hands-on sustainability, robotics, and 3D/VR activities and were full of energy.

Our guest speaker, Radhita, an interaction designer, delivered a brilliant talk: "From Building Tech to Building It." She shared her world of user research, wireframes, prototypes, and real-world digital design, and the girls were completely captivated.

Then came one of the most moving moments of the day. Mia S., one of our own GIC community members, stood up and gave her very first presentation about her tech journey so far. It was a true, proud moment for all of us. πŸ’›

Both speakers sparked so much curiosity, and the Q&A was buzzing with brilliant questions.

A huge shoutout to Emily and Diana, two girls from our community who supported our mentors brilliantly on the day. Watching our community grow into leaders is everything.

And of course, thank you to every mentor and volunteer who gave their time and energy. You make GIC what it is.

Girls building. Girls speaking. Girls leading. This is what it looks like. πŸ’ͺ🏽

Is AI hurting the planet, or could it help save it? πŸŒπŸ€–

The answer is: it depends on how we use it.

Our latest Girls Into Coding article explores the environmental impact of AI, from the staggering amount of power consumed by data centres to the exciting ways AI is already being used to predict climate patterns, protect biodiversity, and support sustainability.

But here's the thing. The next generation will be the ones making decisions about how this technology is used. That's exactly why it matters that children and young people understand both the possibilities and the responsibilities that come with AI.

At Girls Into Coding, we believe tech education isn't just about learning to code. It's about engineering a better future with the technology we build.

Sunday's bootcamp energy was epic! πŸ”₯

Watching girls move from "I'm not sure I can do this" to designing with CAD software, laser cutting, soldering, 3D printing, working with electronic components, debugging their own code, learning new skills, making friends, and celebrating each other's wins. That's what it's all about.

Sunday's bootcamp = proof that when you give girls the space, tools, and encouragement, they can shine ✨

Huge appreciation to Another Way Women's Foundation, Depot, UK, and our dedicated mentors and volunteers for making Sunday happen. Your support means more girls get to see themselves as makers, coders, and future engineers.

They told me girls can’t do tech and engineering β€” so I built a community that does. Brilliantly. πŸ’™
When I received this photo of my portrait on the silver screen at the UN General Assembly Hall during the opening of International Women’s Day and the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), I was completely speechless.
To be featured as part of a campaign celebrating women who have shattered glass ceilings, on one of the world’s biggest stages, is an honor I cannot put into words.
This is a reminder to every woman and girl out there, keep going, keep building, keep showing up. The world is watching. 🌍✨
