Brake, the road safety charity

Brake, the road safety charity Our vision is a world with zero road deaths and serious injuries where everyone moves in a safe and healthy way, as part of our normal day.

Brake is a road safety charity working with communities and organisations across the UK to stop the tragedy of road deaths and injuries, make streets and communities safer for everyone, and support people bereaved and seriously injured on roads. We support people affected by road death and serious injury. We campaign for evidence-based policies and investments to enable everyone to have access to

safe and healthy mobility. We work with schools and families, communities and companies to champion the cause of road safety and raise awareness of key road safety issues. We coordinate Road Safety Week, the UK's biggest annual road safety campaign. We help organisations that employ people who drive for work to manage work-related road risk. We support professionals working with road crash victims. Find out more at www.brake.org.uk or contact us at [email protected]
For road crash victim support please call the National Road Victim Service on 0808 8000 401 or email [email protected], 10am-4pm Mon-Fri. Find out more at https://www.brake.org.uk/support. We welcome your comments and questions but please be respectful to other Brake followers.

A huge thank you to Kirsten, who raised an incredible £1,856.25 for Brake after taking on the Edinburgh Half Marathon. 💛

Kirsten chose to support Brake in memory of her friend and colleague Brad, who sadly lost his life in a road traffic collision while on duty.

As a police officer, Kirsten sees first-hand the devastating impact road crashes can have on victims, families and communities. Following Brad's death, running the Edinburgh Half Marathon became an especially meaningful challenge and an opportunity to raise awareness of the support Brake provides to families affected by road death and injury.

Brad was remembered as a police officer with the biggest heart and cheekiest smile, and through her fundraising Kirsten has helped ensure other families can access the same support when they need it most.

Thank you, Kirsten, for choosing to support Brake and for running in Brad's memory. 💛

Inspired by Kirsten's story? Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2027 places are now open. Whether you're looking to take on the half marathon or marathon, we'd love to have you on Team Brake. Get in touch to find out more [email protected]

While we applaud the Government for setting ambitious targets to address the number of people killed and seriously injured on UK roads, we still want to see more support for those people who are bereaved and seriously injured in road collisions. Post-crash support remains largely ignored in the Road Safety Strategy and we want to see this addressed. Here is our CEO Ross Moorlock arguing the case at a Transport Select Committee session earlier this month.

A huge thank you to this incredible family team, who raised £1,121 after taking on the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 5K for Brake. 💛

Together, they completed the challenge in memory of Natalia, who was just 23 years old when she sadly died in a motorcycle collision in September 2025.

With family members coming together to run in her honour, the 5K was a meaningful way to remember Natalia while raising vital funds to support people affected by road crashes.

Thank you for choosing to support Brake and for sharing Natalia's memory through your fundraising.

A huge thank you to the organisers, skaters and attendees of the Louisey Rider Cup who raised over £5,000 for Brake at this year's event.

The annual roller derby tournament, organised by Nottingham Roller Derby, is held in memory of their teammate Louise Wright. Louise was just 29 when she died after being hit by a lorry in 2014 as she cycled to work.

This year’s derby – the 11th Louisey Rider Cup – raised an incredible £5,541.68 for Brake, putting the total that has been raised since the inaugural event in 2016 at more than £45,500!

Tributes to Louise were held throughout the day, including the team names, which were all dedicated to things associated with her – such as Grandad Shoes, Charity Shop Chic and Odd Sox! Players and spectators also cheered every time a team reached a score of 66 – the player number that Louise wore.
