The Welcome Centre offers practical support to individuals and families in crisis, including food, toiletries, bedding, and household items. The people we help face job loss, debt and eviction, homelessness, fleeing violence, drug or alcohol problems or are struggling with mental or physical health issues, younger people and asylum seekers and other problems. We also provide an advice, guidance an

This week, we were pleased to deliver a training session hosted by TSL Kirklees Volunteering, a charity that supports community groups, organisations, and charities across Kirklees.

The session gave us the opportunity to showcase how we've embedded a trauma-informed approach throughout The Welcome Centre, supporting not only the people who access our services but also our staff and volunteers.

It was fantastic to share our experiences and good practice with other third sector organisations, exchange ideas, and strengthen connections across the sector. Thank you to TSL for bringing everyone together for such a valuable opportunity.

We love to redistribute food where we can.

This week we received a message from Chock Shop Yorkshire to say they had surplus stock from a recent event and could we make use of it…

‘Absolutely!’ Was the answer.

These brownies made lots of people smile today. When someone turns to our service for support they are usually in a really difficult position and being able to offer a small uplifting gesture can make such a difference to someone’s day.

Kindness really does make a difference 💜🫶🏼

📢 A quick reminder that we are unable to accept textile donations until further notice.

We’ve been blown away by the incredible generosity of our community and have recently received a huge number of textile donations. Thank you! 💜

As a result, our storage space is currently full, and we’re unable to accept any further textile donations for the time being.

🎉 Thank You, Longwood Engineering! 🎉

We're delighted to share that Longwood Engineering has donated an incredible £3,000 to support local people facing crisis.

As a longstanding supporter of The Welcome Centre, their generosity helps us continue providing food, advice and practical support to people across our community when they need it most.

Corporate donations like this are especially valuable because they allow us to respond quickly to changing needs and direct support where it is needed most.

We're also excited to be working more closely with the team at Longwood Engineering and are grateful that they will be holding a food collection in support of Food Bank Awareness Day this September.

💜 These everyday essentials can make a huge difference 💜

As demand for our services continues, we're asking our amazing community to help us restock some of the items that are most needed in our food bank and hygiene packs.

This week, we're particularly short of:

🍚 Microwave rice
🥫 Meat meals
🥫 Vegetarian meals
🪥 Toothbrushes
🦷 Toothpaste
🧴 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash
🌸 Sanitary products (unopened packets only)

For many people facing financial hardship, these aren't just everyday items, they're essentials that can be difficult to afford after paying for food, rent and bills.

If you're shopping this week and can spare an extra item, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every donation helps us provide practical support and dignity to local people when they need it most.

👧 👦Could you help a child in our community?

In May 2026, The Welcome Centre provided emergency food support to 329 children.

Behind this figure are families facing incredibly difficult circumstances. Many parents and carers are skipping meals themselves to ensure their children have enough to eat.

No child should have to experience food poverty, and no parent should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their family. 💜

By setting up a regular donation today, you can help us continue providing vital food and support to local people when they need it most.

Just £10 per month could help provide food for a child for one week.

Your support will help ensure that children and families in our community have access to the essentials they need during times of crisis.

💜 Local people still need your support 💜

Last week alone, The Welcome Centre helped 417 people, including 131 children, providing enough food for 7,046 meals to families and individuals across our community.

Despite last week's appeal, we're still running low on several essential items. If you're heading to the supermarket this weekend, please consider adding an extra item or two to your basket for someone facing difficult times.

We urgently need:

🥫 Tinned meat meals (any variety)
🥫 Tinned vegetarian meals (any variety)
🐱 Cat food (wet and dry)
🐟 Tinned mackerel or sardines
🍜 Pot noodles

Your donations help ensure that nobody in our community has to face hunger alone. Every item, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference.

💜 Charities Helping Charities 💜

We recently met the wonderful ladies who run the The Charity Shop - Supporting Our Community at a community fundraising event, and we're delighted that Danni has kindly offered to sell Community Cards in the shop. All proceeds of the sale of these cards go directly to helping our service continue it's vital work.
