We know that choosing where to go for a hot drink, friendly chat or seek support is about more than just a service — it’s about feeling welcome, valued, and confident in the people looking after you.

Every customer who walks through our doors puts their trust in us. Whether they’re visiting our café, looking for advice and support, or using our rooms for activities and meetings, we want everyone to feel welcome, seen and heard.

We’re here for our community. If you know someone who could benefit from our café, support services or room hire, please let them know what we do.

Café Closed this Thursday 29th October 2026.

Our café will be closed all day this Thursday for a deep clean. We’re proud to have a 5-star food hygiene rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and want to keep our café clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.

Have you spotted our new signs at the Mission?

As part of our ongoing development and commitment to making the Mission a welcoming, accessible and recognisable place for everyone, we’ve updated some of our signs to better reflect who we are, what we do, and what the Mission means to our community.

What do they mean?
More than just signs, they represent our ongoing journey as a Mission — our commitment to welcoming people, bringing people together, offering support and looking towards the future while staying true to the heart of who we are.

Whether you’re visiting us for the first time or have been part of the Mission for years, we want you to feel welcome, know where to go, and understand what we stand for.

A big thank you to everyone who continues to support the Mission as we develop and grow. We’re proud of the progress we’re making and excited for what’s ahead!

Premises Officer (Part-Time)
£13.45 per hour

We’re looking for a reliable, practical and enthusiastic person to help keep our building safe, secure, clean and welcoming for everyone who uses our services.

🕒 Working pattern:
27 hours over a 2-week rota, including alternate Saturday working.

🔧 The role includes:
✅ General maintenance and cleaning
✅ Setting up rooms for events
✅ Opening and closing the building
✅ Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the Mission
✅ Occasional support to our Café Team

📅 Closing date: Thursday 22nd October 2026
📍 Interviews will take place in person on Monday 2nd November 2026 at Huddersfield Mission.

Everyday at the Mission we support people who are dealing with poverty, mental health and homelessness among many other issues. But arguably the issue we deal with more than anything else is loss. Loss of identity, confidence, a home, a job, a future, loss of innocence or loss of opportunity.

This week however the loss is a little closer to home as we heard that one of our past volunteers has died. Graham was for many years part of the community that is the Mission. An advice volunteer who supported people with calm, quiet compassion and care. I am not sure how many people will have benefitted from his advice and calmness, but I am sure it is many hundreds of people. Graham did not have the most obvious background to be an adviser, he worked in a plumber's merchant, but he told me that it was actually really good training - keeping calm under pressure dealing with people that sometimes were frustrated. So when Graham retired he became a volunteer with Kirklees Citizens Advice and Law Centre, and then later joined the advice team with Huddersfield Mission

Loss is sad, but it is eased by good memories. Graham you will be remembered fondly and frequently.

MYTH 10 — “Homelessness could never happen to me.”

Homelessness can affect people from all walks of life, sometimes following circumstances that can change surprisingly quickly.

Because homelessness is a situation — not a person’s identity.
