Parents! Please read this and see if you have any suggestions or comments...

ADVICE NEEDED! Hello is anyone’s child at Woodley? We are looking at specialist schools for my daughter who is currently in year 1 (she was deferred so she would technically be in year 2). She is autistic and we suspect adhd too, is a GLP but she is starting to use more and more natural language - she is now able to use short sentences and grammar to request things. She now talks non stop although it’s a mix between scripted and natural language. Although she has academic delays, I wouldn’t consider those cognitive delays. She is clever, just shows it in a very different way.

I have been to Woodley twice as her SENCO said it would be a good option for her, but both times I went, I have been told that cci is only one factor, they also consider children who on average are working 4/5 years behind cognitively. I guess that’s where my confusion comes from. If they said 4/5 years behind academically that would make sense - but how do they evaluate cognitive abilities when children are not fully able to show what they know/can do due to comms issues?

Does anyone has a child at Woodley who is verbal but also still uses lots of echolalia, cognitively able but academically delayed and what is your experience of the school? Thanks all for any feedback you can give x
