🙌A couple weeks ago we had a visit into our Hexham shop from Lottie and her owner Phil.

Lottie came from a multi-animal home rescue, where she had been found kept in an allotment and used purely for breeding. When she first came to us Lottie wasn't even housetrained, due to the conditions she was kept in.

Now for some of you that have adopted from us, you know that the first animal you contact us about isn't necessarily the animal that you take home with you. The same can be said for Phil and his family. He had originally contacted us about another Lab, a male, but after speaking to our adoptions officer John, they discussed coming up top see Lottie, and for Phil and Lottie is was love at first sight.

John would then go on annual leave, but Phil couldn't wait to bring Lottie home, so plans were made with our Trustee Jan for Phil to come and pick Lottie up, and take her to her new forever home.

That was 4 1/2 years ago, and just through watching them in our shop, you can tell the bond is definitely there. Lottie is Phil's shadow, only really leaving his side when treats were on offer, but soon returning to stand next to the man, who for the past 4 and a bit years has represented safety, compassion, security and most importantly family.

Last up for Black Cat Thursday is Maisie.

1 year old Maisie is a really friendly cat. She has been spending a lot of time with Lily and Woody, and gets on with them really well. So she could go into a home with another cat, or could go with Lily and Woody (more on them coming on Saturday).

She loves to play and loves her snacks.

Maisie is Vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

Next up today we have 2 1/2 year old Evie. Evie is such a friendly cat, and loves nothing more than cuddles and a fuss. And she will be happiest just curling up on your lap watching TV.

She loves her treats (as most cats do), and will gladly take any.

Evie is vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

It's Black Cat Thursday. Today we will be highlighting some of our Black cats that we have available for adoption.

Black Cats can be harder to rehome, and we are hoping we can find the right home for these wonderful cats.

First up is Kit Kat. This wonderful cat is 9 years old. However she can be really shy and reserved to start with. She just needs a home she can call her own, and finally relax. Once she is relaxed she is a really loving cat, and loves her treats.

Kit Kat is vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

Meet William and Arthur, two brothers that would love to stay together. Still quite young at 4-5 months old, this pair can be quite shy to start with, and we feel staying together in a comfortable and loving home will help them come out of their shells.

Aside from some initial wariness, they are typical kittens, when left to their own devices, they love to play with their toys, and each other, and love their treats.

They are vaccinated and micro-chipped, however due to their age, they won't be neutered as yet. Should you adopt them before they are, we can supply you with a voucher to get them neutered. This voucher will be tied to each kitten and your vet. If you don't have a vet we can recommend one for you.

Here come the likely lads....

Meet Magpie and Robin, our 2 year old males, that very much come as a pair. They do everything together, but Robin is very much the sidekick of the two and will follow Magpie everywhere.

They can be quite shy to start with, but soon come around...being enticed with treats never hurts! But once they are comfortable they will are very loving, friendly cats.

Magpie does have an eye issue, but with his character you would never know, as he doesn't let it hinder him in anyway. If you do want more information about his medical history please speak to our adoptions officer.

Meet Oreo (Black and White) and Rocky (Black), both 10 months old.

Both have very similar personalities, and are very friendly cats, who love attention.
These two cats came into us together, and we would like them to leave us in the same way....together. As they have such a close bond, it would be better if both Oreo and Rocky went to their new home together, as we know both cats could give a home so much love.

They are both neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Meet Flour. this 10 month old bundle of joy is looking for her new forever home.

He is such a lovely, friendly cat, who loves any attention he can get. He loves to play, and loves his treats.

Welcome to this week's RSPCA Northumberland West Newsletter. This will be the last weekly newsletter, and from November we are going to go Monthly. There will however be updates and tips and tricks coming over the next couple of weeks.

There are only two week left to enter our Cat Photo Competition 2026. We have had some fantastic entries so far, and we want to see more.

The competition is completely FREE to enter, and all you have to do is supply us with a photo of your cat. To do this you can either drop one into our two shops in Hexham and Rothbury, or you can email a copy to [email protected], with your cat's name and age.

There are three categories this year - Kittens up to 1 year old, Cats 1-7 years old, and Golden Oldies 7 years plus.

The closing date is Saturday October 31st, and entries after this date will not be considered. Once the closing date has passed, a member of RSPCA NWB staff will pick the final four from each category, and the voting for the winner will go to you the public throughout November.

There is an event in Rothbury on Saturday 31st October which will be raising money for us at RSPCA Northumberland West. Taking place at Jubilee Hall between 7-11pm, tickets for the event are available at our Rothbury shop, and priced at £8 per person.

There will be live music, raffles and a quiz on the night. There will be a Bar available, which is CASH ONLY.

FEATURED ANIMALS

This week we are looking at some of our cats that we have available for adoption. With two of them being quite shy, and may need a bit of extra attention and love to help them settle into any new home.

First up is 7 year old Jazz. She is really shy to start with, but once she is settled, she is such a loving cat, who will come looking for cuddles and fuss on her own time. She would love to go out and explore her surroundings once she is fully settled into any new home.

Then we have 2 year old Peacock. Like Jazz she is really shy, and just needs that loving home that will help her come out of her shell. She loves her snacks, and that can go a long way to winning her over. She would need to be the only animal in the home.

And last but not least is Flour. 10 month old Flour is a really friendly, loving cat, who loves any and all attention she can get. She loves her snacks, and loves to play. She could go into a home with another cat, or could be paired up with one of our cats Fred and go as a pair.

All our animals are vaccinated and micro-chipped. They will be neutered depending on their age.
