Can you remember when the Metrocentre looked like this? 🤔
If you visited the Metrocentre throughout the 80s and 90s, you will undoubtedly remember the uniqueness of its incredibly detailed themed zones.
This brilliant throwback captures the mosaic map water feature sitting right in the heart of the old Mediterranean Village. Tossing a few copper coins into the water while taking in the artificial palm trees, Juliet balconies, and quirky independent eateries remains a core memory for an entire generation of shoppers.
Back then, walking through the sprawling complex genuinely felt like embarking on an adventure. Between the rustic charm of the Antiques Village, the grandeur of the Roman Forum, and this fantastic holiday-style enclave, it really did feel like stepping into a completely different world.
Of course, that specific corner of the mall looks entirely unrecognisable today. The Mediterranean Village was eventually stripped out to make way for the Qube dining quarter. The exotic independent spots and mosaic tiles have since been replaced by the sleek, modern facades of familiar high-street chains like Five Guys, Slim Chickens, and ThaiKhun.
The layout has undoubtedly modernised over the years – but do you think the classic Metrocentre had more character when it featured these quirky villages?
