Sales of the programme help to fund our events, and you will find much useful information inside to help you enjoy our 2026 event, including the procession route map. Read also a short history of this bonfire society, the event timings, safety information, and other interesting articles. The programme will also be available from our street sellers on selected days. This one could become a collectors item! Get one now or repent at leisure!

This time last year, our effigy team (led by Willie, pictured) was deep in the throes of building our 30th anniversary effigy, taking a swipe at the roadworks on the A21 heading out of Hastings.

This years effigy build is well underway, though there won't be any pictures of it until it's unveiled on our firesite on 17th October, as its one of the best kept secrets in the society. Not even our chairman knows what the effigy is!

However, that doesn't stop us from speculating as to what this year's effigy could be, so feel free to comment below what you think would be a good effigy for this year. Tune in, right here, on Oct 17th to find out if you were right!

*Bonfire Wood Donations* 🔥

At this time of year, we’re often asked whether spare wood from residents and local businesses can be used on our bonfire.

Here’s our FAQ:

🪵 *What wood can we take?*

Plain, untreated wood only! Nails are absolutely fine — we pull them out of the sand-covered bonfire site the following day using big magnets.

🚫 *What wood can’t we take?*

Treated wood, please. This includes most domestic timber that has been treated with stains, varnishes or preservatives. Garden furniture is also commonly treated to prevent it rotting in the rain. We don’t burn these materials because of the fumes they can produce.

🔥 *What is most of the bonfire made from?*

Shipping pallets.

📦 *Can we store donated wood?*

Sadly, we don’t have any storage facilities. In our dreams, we’ll eventually raise enough funds to buy some land for storage and other bonfire-related purposes!

📍 *Where and when should wood be dropped off?*

Friday 16th October 2026, from 7am onwards, on the beach by the west end of Pelham Place Car Park.

🚚 *Can we collect?*

Only maybe! We have limited transport facilities and hundreds of other things to run around doing that day. If you have a large quantity that needs collecting, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

The HBBS Grand Auction 2026 was another fantastic success, raising valuable funds towards this year's Bonfire celebrations.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who donated prizes, attended, bid, bought raffle tickets, volunteered their time, or supported us in any way. We are incredibly grateful to the many local businesses, organisations and individuals whose generosity helped make the event possible.

Special thanks also go to the Hastings & St Leonards Angling Association for hosting the evening and providing such a welcoming venue.

Finally, thank you to our amazing fundraising team. The countless hours of hard work, planning and enthusiasm that go on behind the scenes made this event another great success.
