Seal survey, checking bird boxes and egg identification🦭🐦

15 Grey seals were spotted on the shore of Hastings Country Park beach! We also identified our nexts to be either blue t**s or great t**s nesting in our bird boxes! This is great news for our smaller bird species which are more at risk of declines from habitat loss and predation🐦‍⬛

Our eggs were found on the forest floor, which we researched as wood pigeon eggs based on the colour, width and length of the egg shells🪺

Our next Eco-Active sessions will be full of bat data collection, with parents/carers accompanying young people🦇

WHAT HAPPENED ON OUR FAMILY BAT WALK?🦇

What a beautiful evening it was, starting off with low bat activity and then ending on a high watching the bats forage over the pond! Safe to say everyone thoroughly enjoyed the night and saw lots of bats🤩

A big thank you to life science team and for helping to lead this incredible evening of discovering the night life in Stanmer Park🌚

Our butterfly survey confirmed there is high activity from over 5 different species of butterflies in just the small chalkland area we previously restored with .leather_. This is an incredible result, showing Eco-Active having a positive impact on butterfly populations at ‼️

1) Conducted a reptile survey🦎
2) Helped a toad find shelter🐸
3) Conducted a butterfly survey🦋
4) Evaluated the effects of our chalkland restoration action on butterfly populations💪
5) Evaluated the importance of chalkland habitats are for butterflies and insects🌿

☀️Join us for our WILDLIFE & TECH CLUB SUMMER HAF this August!☀️

Over the 4 days, your child will become an EXPERT in using wildlife technology to identify and track species of mammals, birds, insects and plants, as well as learning the secrets to our wild spaces in the Country Parks at Hastings and Seven Sisters! They will leave with a new understanding of the value of nature and what it means to be involved in nature conservation🌿

TIMETABLE
Day 1: Wildlife trail camera small mammal survey and reptile survey
Day 2: Bio-blitz, identifying bugs and plants
Day 3: Acoustic bird identification and survey
Day 4: Campaigning for nature

Here's what's included:
✅ Free Lunch – Delicious and healthy, every day.
✅ All Tech Provided – Just bring your curiosity!
✅ Expert-Led – Sessions guided by passionate professionals from naturebytes CIC.

As the sun sets, explore the park to discover the different bat species that call this area home🌲

You will be hosted by experts from Naturebytes and the University of Sussex Life Science teams - 🧬

Tickets are open to Eco-Active families.

Here's what you'll do:
