🌟 Meet Hugh – Finding the Right Fit with Job Coaching! 🌟

After graduating from Project SEARCH in 2024, Hugh was ready to find a job that offered structure, routine and the opportunity to build his independence.

With support from his VIAS Job Coach, Joanne, Hugh explored his strengths, interests and the type of working environment that would suit him best. Although he had previous experience in gardening and groundskeeping, Hugh was keen to try something new – ideally a role that kept him active without being out in the cold and wet Scottish weather! ☔

Through working closely with Joanne to build his confidence and showcase his strengths to employers, Hugh secured a position as a Cleaner with his local authority, working Monday to Friday in a local primary school.

Hugh enjoys his routine and working alongside the school's teaching and janitorial staff. Even better, earning his own money means he can look forward to holidays with his family and enjoy the benefits of his hard work. ✨

Hugh's story is a fantastic example of how the right support can help people identify their strengths, find meaningful employment and build greater independence.

✨ A VIAS success story

When Helen joined VIAS, she had been unemployed for several years and was looking for support that worked for her. She had found larger group sessions challenging, so the 1-to-1 support from a VIAS Job Coach was a much better fit.

Her Job Coach provided regular, flexible support, listening to her experiences, helping with applications and cover letters, updating her CV and encouraging her to keep momentum with her job search.

The result? Helen built her confidence, put herself forward for opportunities and successfully secured a role as a Visitor Operations Assistant at Paisley Museum. 🎉

As Helen says:

When we think about accessibility, we often think about ramps, lifts and accessible toilets.
But accessibility is about so much more than physical access.

Information needs to be accessible too. 📝

If information is full of jargon, complicated or difficult to navigate, it can create barriers for people who need to access it.
Accessible information helps people understand their options, make informed decisions and feel included. 💜

So, ask yourself: “Can everyone understand and use this information?”

Because removing barriers isn't just about getting through the door, it’s about being able to understand what’s on the other side.

A journey to employment 💙

We wanted to share a recent success story from our employability support programme.

After leaving college early and finding themselves unemployed, one of our participants was looking for support that felt more personalised and tailored to them.

Through the VIAS programme, they had regular weekly meetings and support to identify job opportunities that genuinely matched their interests. Having that consistent support helped build confidence and keep them motivated throughout their employment journey.

Their hard work paid off, and they successfully secured a role as a Cleaning Operative with OCS. 🎉

Okay, this was just too cute not to share! 🥹💙

Meet Archie, who is just 3 months old and already proudly representing VIAS! 👶🏼✨

Archie popped into the office with his mum, Courtney Norris, Senior Lead Consultant in Triple E Renfrewshire and he was looking very smart in his VIAS uniform!

We couldn’t resist getting a little team photo with Archie, Davie and Hannah, our Lead Consultants. 💙

We might have a new member of the VIAS team in the making… 👀😂

From 15 years out of employment to starting a new career in a laboratory role. 🤝

Peter came to the programme with a clear goal: to work in a laboratory environment. But after more than 15 years unemployed, including previous experiences with employability programmes that didn’t align with his skills or aspirations, he was understandably sceptical about taking part in another programme.

Working alongside his Job Coach, Peter was supported to rebuild his confidence, refresh his laboratory skills and develop his interview skills.

A 5-week work placement with the University of Aberdeen’s Zoology Department helped him regain valuable laboratory experience, while mock interviews and tailored support helped prepare him for future opportunities.

His Job Coach also worked directly with employers, exploring opportunities that matched Peter’s specialist skills and helping to tailor his CV to the roles he was applying for. 📝

That support ultimately led to an opportunity with Oleochem, where Peter met with the Director, toured the facilities and was invited to interview. He was then offered full-time employment in a laboratory role and started on 6th July 2026.

For Peter, this was more than a new job, it was his first step back into employment after 15 years.
“I’m very grateful to have made my first step back into employment with the help of Triple E.”
