We were delighted to welcome visitors from across the central belt today. Coaches, Activity Leads and volunteers took part in the RDA Safeguarding for Equestrians session.

A great morning of learning and visitors said they are in awe of our indoor arena and Tack Shack! ❤️

Safeguarding refers to the proactive approach to keeping children, young people and adults at risk safe from harm.

Welcome to Ravelrig RDA Shaunnie!
0ur new horse is a 6 year old Hungarian cold blood. Originally a carriage driving horse he is now under saddle and being ridden .

Our Manager Nikki who led on his purchase said
“He is like is a big black Labrador with a lovely temperament. Gayle who we bought him from has been training him for all aspects of RDA. We are very grateful she has trusted him to us to continue his education and be part of the Ravelrig team .”

Shaunnie sat his rda ‘exam’ last Thursday when he was visited by the Edinburgh and Borders RDA Regional Coach and passed with flying colours!
Had his first RDA session on Saturday and was hoof perfect!

Volunteers Week has finished but we have more to share about our wonderful volunteers. Did you know that all our coaches and trainee coaches at Ravelrig RDA are volunteers who require regular formal assessments and reviews as well as CPD? Congratulations to all our coaches who have passed a review this year and to our hard working trainees who are progressing well.

Becoming a Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) coach means taking on a role that blends coaching, safeguarding, equine knowledge, disability awareness, and person‑centred support. At its heart, it’s about enabling disabled children and adults to experience the joy, freedom and therapeutic benefits of horses — safely, confidently, and with dignity.
