Founded in 1446 as the collegiate Chapel of St Matthew by Sir William St Clair, the Chapel took forty years to complete and was not finished until the after Sir William's death in 1484. The beauty of its setting and the mysterious symbolism of its ornate stonework have inspired and intrigued artists and visitors ever since. Today there are countless theories, myths and legends associated with the Chapel; many of which are impossible to prove or disprove conclusively (Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code being a recent example). Why not come and visit Rosslyn and see the place for yourself. Our tour guides will be able to tell you more about the Chapel stories as well as its equally interesting factual history. We also have a new state-of-the-art visitor centre with interactive displays and further information on offer, as well as a cafe and gift shop to make sure you get the most out of your visit.
