📍Jillian Edelstein - ‘Among People’ is here until 24 October.

‘The Water Rats’ (2022) is one of several projects exhibited in ‘Among People’. Created during the COVID-19 lockdowns, ‘The Water Rats’ documents a community of swimmers who gather regularly at the ponds of Hampstead Heath in London.

Drawn together by a shared commitment to daily cold-water swimming, the group became what Edelstein describes as a “motley crew of outlaws” - people of different ages, professions, backgrounds and ethnicities who found freedom, companionship and connection in London’s wild waters during a period of isolation and uncertainty.

Unlike many of the communities Edelstein has photographed throughout her career, this is one she has become part of herself.

🎥 A documentary film, ‘The Water Rats’ (2022), also grew out of this project.

Upcoming Event… Becoming Archived with the Le***an Snapshot Collective

📆 Sunday 18 October 2026, 2pm - 4pm

Archives have often excluded le***an lives or represented them on someone else’s terms. The Le***an Snapshot Collective asks how our photographs and stories might enter the record on our own terms.

📸 In this two-hour workshop, you are invited to bring a personal snapshot of yourself, share its story with the group and reflect on what it means to archive le***an life now. Scanners, index cards and consent forms will be available for those who wish to donate their photograph to the Le***an Snapshot Collective, deciding how it may be archived and displayed.

We’ll explore what our photographs show, what lies beyond the frame and what we remember beyond the image. With contributors’ consent, photographs and stories may also become future collective public artworks - collages or mosaics that make le***an lives visible on our own terms.

There is no expectation or pressure to lend or donate for those who prefer to keep their snapshot private.

🎞️ Bring a photograph. Share it’s story. Help build a living archive of le***an lives.
