Crew was formed in 1992 with the aim of providing viable, evidence-based information on drugs, to reduce the stigma of talking about drugs and drug use, and support people to make better, more informed choices around substance use. ng to inform people of potential harms & risks associated with drugs and, if people choose to use any of them, suggest ways to use that reduce those harms. Drugs information, harm reduction tips, a risk assessor tool and dedicated app to assist anyone wishing to stabilise, reduce or stop use of any particular substance can be found on our website - www.crew.scot. Want to get involved with Crew? 🧞⭐️🫯
 
We’re looking for volunteers to join our team and support our work providing non-judgemental information, advice and support around drugs and s*xual health.
 
Crew volunteers can get involved in a range of activities, from our Cockburn Street Drop-in and nightlife events and festivals, to community based outreach, volunteer forums and more. Full induction training and ongoing support are provided — we just ask that you have an interest in Crew’s work and a commitment to getting involved.
 
Volunteering with Crew is a chance to develop new skills, gain experience, meet like-minded people and be part of our work to reduce harm and challenge stigma.

There are continued reports of increased drug harms in Edinburgh and the Lothians, including near fatal and some fatal overdoses.

This includes benzos and he**in, sometimes with he**in reported as looking unusual, potentially contaminated with synthetic opioids.

Naloxone is a life-saving medicine that temporarily reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

Signs of an opioid overdose include:
Unconsciousness – won't wake with a shout or a shake
Severe nausea and vomiting
Seizures/fitting
Difficulty breathing/snoring/raspy breathing
Blue/pale tingeing of knees, hands and lips
Slow or erratic pulse (heartbeat)
Pale, cold and clammy skin
Pin-point pupils

In an emergency call 999 for an ambulance

When to give naloxone:
Naloxone should be given to anyone who is non-responsive and displaying signs of an overdose.

If you are unsure if the person has taken opioids, always use naloxone as this will not cause any harm. If they do have opioids in their system amongst other drugs, reversing the effects may be enough to bring that person round.

Get naloxone:
In Scotland, you can get FREE training in how to give someone who has overdosed nasal naloxone (if you’re aged 14+) or injectable naloxone (if you’re aged 16+) and get a FREE kit from:

Not only did young people from the magnificent Leith Academy recently secure £3,000 for Crew in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative hosted by the ; but Leith Academy are also hosting a 'battle of the bards' night of poetry and song this Wednesday 28th January EH6 6BJ!

This event commemeorates the 'Queen's Wake', a competition organised by Mary Queen of Scots on her arrival in Leith in 1561, which drew bards from across Scotland to perform for the prize of her very own harp.

On Wednesday, local poets and musicians will compete for a cash prize of £1,000, kindly donated by local businesses.
