In our latest blog, our Senior Housing Options Broker Karen Campbell reflects on the impact of Scotland's housing emergency, specifically on young disabled adults looking to live independently, and the support that we provide through our Making Moves service.

Working with organisations across Scotland to build hope and create opportunity for all young people to live in safe and secure homes that suit their needs, we look forward to joining colleagues next week at the 'Building Hope: A Home for Every Child' rally organised in Edinburgh (Wednesday 26 August) by Shelter Scotlandand Fife Gingerbread.

Working with our team, including our mortgage consultant, Emma was supported at every step to buy her flat and secure her forever home.

We have signed up to the Pride in Veterans Standard (PiVS).

This is a programme run by Fighting with Pride, a military charity that supports LGBT+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families, particularly those who were affected by the ‘gay ban’, which was lifted on 12 January 2000.

As a veterans-focused organisation, we want to ensure we are proactive in making the whole veteran community feel confident in accessing our services and support, knowing that when they do, they can be assured they will be treated with dignity, respect and understanding.

As such, we are delighted to join this standard, having demonstrated that we are committed to promoting and practicing inclusion and respect for all LGBT+ people in the delivery of our services, specifically our Military Matters service, which helps veterans make informed decisions about their housing.

Our ScotGEM Interns, Shula and Racheal, met with some families who were seeking help in future planning for housing for their younger disabled children. The families have been receiving advice on their housing options by Housing Options Scotland’s Making Moves service.

“We had the privilege of sitting down (online) with some families receiving support from Housing Options Scotland. Their courage, resilience, and determination to create a better future for their children were nothing short of inspiring. These stories remind us that independence isn’t just about where you live—it’s about finding a place and community that can help you thrive. 💙🌟 ”
