The Global Justice Now Scotland office was set up in 1999 to develop a specifically Scottish angle to our campaigns on global poverty. Global Justice Now is a democratic social justice organisation working as part of a global movement to challenge the powerful and create a more just and equal world. We believe that a better world is possible: a world where our resources and decisions about how the

y’re used lie in the hands of the many, not the few; a world where resources are available to all, not just to those who can afford them. We mobilise people in the UK for change, and act in solidarity with those fighting injustice, particularly in the global south. In January 2015 we changed our name from World Development Movement to Global Justice Now.

From AI slop to Uber Eats and driverless cars – Big Tech is shaping our futures – but is it a future we want?

Behind the clever apps and shiny new time saving devices is a resource grab: of data, land, energy, and critical materials. It’s creating huge wealth for the tech bros, but at whose expense?

Join our Scottish gathering in Edinburgh for some great speakers, and discussion about how we resist the monopoly power of the tech giants.

With:
• Nick Dearden , Global Justice Now
• Dr Samer Abdelnour, Senior Lecturer at Edinburgh University
• Dr Craig Dalzell, Head of Policy and Research, The Common Weal - a vision for a better Scotland
• Sarah Jaffe, reporter and writer covering labour and social movements in the U.S
• Rachel Revesz, journalist campaigning against hyperscale data centres in Scotland

We Rise is a free day of political education and collaborative and creative workshops to inspire and equip us to fight for a better world. For anyone under 30.

Young people are leading resistance to the far right, the genocide in Gaza and fossil fuels all across the world. In the global south, Gen Z-led revolts have toppled autocrats from Nepal to Madagascar. And across Europe, our governments’ complicity in the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people has triggered an unprecedented movement in which students and young people have put international solidarity at the heart of our politics.

At We Rise we’ll hear from and strategise with incredible international speakers on the front lines of each of these struggles. We’ll be bringing together organisers from across the world to share lessons from the last year of youth led resistance. We’ll be planning what to do next and how we can make 2026 a year of solidarity and global justice.

This year’s line-up already includes:

💥 Rahila Gupta, chair of Southall Black Sisters and co-author of Planet Patriarchy: Global Tales of Feminism and Oppression

💥 Pallavi Pundir, writer and researcher on gender and democratic movements in Asia

💥 Nick Dearden, director of Global Justice Now and author of Pharmanomics: How Big Pharma Destroys Global Health

💥 Alyssa Elliott, founder of Indivisible London, campaigner against Donald Trump

💥 Keir Milburn, co-director of Abundance thinktank, author of Generation Left and Radical Abundance: How to Win a Green Democratic Future

With more TBA.

Learn about incredible struggles all around the world and plan the path forward for our movement - see you in Leeds!

Great to support the rally outside the Scottish parliament today on the final day of the UK government consultation. The Scottish government must show it is serious about tackling climate change by opposing this climate-wrecking project.

Proud to march with Friends of the Earth Scotland and other march organisers for Glasgow's climate march on Saturday as we showed solidarity with people across the world on the day of action during COP30 climate summit in Brazil.

Thanks to Global Justice Now supporters who came along: there was a great turn out and atmosphere.

So many people care about strong climate action and a fair transition from fossil fuels in Scotland - our leaders need to listen and take the bold action necessary.
