Saying no to the new EHRC code.

Join us at 6pm, Thursday 9th July at the top of Middle Meadows Walk, Edinburgh. It's part of a nationwide decentralised protest, organised by the Bodily Autonomy Coalition, against the EHRC’s transphobic, undemocratic bathroom ban. Right now, there are other groups protesting in Manchester, Hackney, Lambeth, Birmingham, Brighton, and more.
The 9th is the day that the EHRC’s transphobic new guidance creates an American-style bathroom ban in the UK.
The new statutory code of practice will violate the dignity, safety, and human rights of all trans people in the UK.
The new guidance has been pushed through without a single vote, and without any oversight.
The new guidance is opposed by all major human rights groups.
Take action now
Join us to protest and leaflet.
The Parliament can stop this any time they want by updating the 2010 Equality Act to be clearly trans-inclusive. Write to your MP and urge them to take action! Edinburgh Council condemn transphobic EHRC guidance

Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh applauds the City of Edinburgh Council for voting on 25th of June, by an overwhelming majority, to condemn the transphobic new guidance from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

We are grateful to Councillors Alex Staniforth and Alys Mumford whose motion not only included powerful and unequivocal language calling the guidance "discriminatory, unworkable, and incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights," but also laid out several concrete actions for the Council to take in response.

We were proud to send a deputation to speak at the meeting. Zoe Harding delivered a blistering speech on our behalf that made clear the genocidal intent of the EHRC's latest move, along with heartbreaking testimony that laid bare the harm already being done.

We were also glad to hear the forceful and moving deputations from Scottish Trans, Trans Pride Scotland, and the Education Institute Scotland, as well as the impassioned speeches from the Scottish Liberal Democrat and Scottish National Party Councillors supporting the motion.

The EHRC's new code of practice is nothing short of an attempt to erase trans people from public life. It mandates discrimination, promotes hostility, and shreds human rights that have been settled for decades. It also raises potential threats to gender non-conforming women, in particular women of colour, and threatens women's equality with its narrow definition of womanhood.

Just the threat of its implementation has already caused material, physical harm to trans people across Edinburgh and the UK. People we know. People we love. Adults and children alike. Today Edinburgh Council responded to the guidance with exactly the energy it deserves - a full-throated rebuke.

We hope other local authorities across the UK soon follow suit.

Staying trans-inclusive as a Service-provider

Protecting the safety, dignity, and rights of trans people and others who may not have a conventional gender presentation in response to the new Equality Act Code of Practice.

We also ask that you keep in mind that there are real people at the heart of this. Trans people were already vulnerable and a great deal of hate has been directed towards them in recent years. Please do not make their lives harder if you can help it.

Reject s*x based segregation, join the fight for liberation. The EHRC seeks the social murder of trans people, not only by pushing us out of public life but by barring us from essential services. We must fight it at every turn.

Q***r and trans liberation stands alongside and within the fight for racial justice and decolonisation. We reject the pink washing of genocidal states and corporations at home and abroad.

We march to remind those who move against us that they will have to go through us. We remember and recognise the hard fights which brought us what rights we have, and continue that fight for q***r power and change.
