Are you interested in helping a young person through mentoring?

We have online drop-in sessions taking place throughout June designed to give you clear and honest insight into what mentoring involves.

The Zoom sessions are relaxed and informal — there's no pressure to commit to anything, just a chance to find out more and ask questions.

If you’re passionate about making a positive difference for children, young people and families across Scotland, this is a great place to start.

📅 Sessions take place throughout June, with the next one being at 2pm on Thursday, June 11th.

💛 Volunteers’ Week: Angus’ story

Angus is a busy dad, a civil engineer, and someone who’s always made time to give back. When his daughters started becoming more independent, he decided to use his spare time to support a young person as a mentor with Intandem and Ymca Kirkcaldy.

Since then, his mentoring journey has been filled with simple but meaningful moments — kickabouts, outdoor activities, and chats over burgers where young people feel comfortable enough to open up.

He says mentoring is about showing up, listening, and helping young people feel like they matter.

And the best part? He’s enjoyed it even more than he expected — often looking forward to each catch-up just as much as the young person does.

👏 As Volunteers’ Week comes to an end, we’re celebrating people like Angus who are making a real difference in their communities.

🍕🐾🐧 From rating pizzas to trying out ice skating, it’s often the small, everyday experiences that build meaningful mentoring relationships.

A new film created by young people in our InVoice group brings these moments to life, showing the positive impact mentoring can have on children and young people.

The film showcases the power of connection, trust and the mentors who show up for children and young people.

💛 This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible mentors who give just a few hours each week to support a young person — creating lasting change for both.

Could you be that person?

As comes to a close, we’re saying a heartfelt thank you to all those who give their time, skills and expertise through Inspiring Scotland to support charities and the people they serve. From Intandem mentors to our Specialist Volunteers, your contribution makes a real difference. 🤝

Our Specialist Volunteers support organisations to deliver greater impact for the people and communities they serve. This year, we are delighted to celebrate four individuals who have reached significant milestones in their volunteering journeys.

Collectively, they have contributed 1,500 hours – equivalent to 42 weeks of full-time work – in free professional support through the Specialist Volunteer Network (SVN).

A special mention goes to Elaine Crichton, who previously worked with Inspiring Scotland on the SVN team. Now retired, Elaine continues to give her time and expertise so generously, embodying the very best of volunteering.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re shining a light on the joy of mentoring 💫

“I genuinely look forward to our time together – she keeps me on my toes with current trends! She always seems to really look forward to our outings and enjoys herself.”

These are the words of a volunteer mentor in Aberdeen, sharing the joy and impact of mentoring.

Mentoring isn’t just life-changing for young people — it’s incredibly rewarding for volunteers too.

💛 Thank you to all our mentors for the time, care, and commitment you give.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible difference our volunteer mentors make 💛

“She has come on so much with her confidence… once she wouldn’t get on a bus on her own, now she’s doing so much more. Thank you.”

Words from a parent in the Highlands who has seen their child grow thanks to mentoring. Behind every small step is a volunteer giving their time, encouragement and belief.

To all our mentors — thank you for changing lives ✨

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating trusted relationships that matter 💛

“I love spending time with Claire… she makes me laugh. I know I can speak to her if I need to.”

Having someone to talk to, laugh with, and rely on can change everything.

Thank you to all our volunteer mentors for being that person ✨

“They choose us.” (Anya - young participant)

Today is the first day of Volunteers’ Week! We’re highlighting the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time to the children, young people and families we support at COVEY.

To our volunteers, we want to say thank you for continuing to show up without judgement, and for all the moments you simply choose kindness.

Every time you offer someone the space to be heard, every activity you plan around their interests, every smile exchanged at pick-up and drop-off, every time you just keep showing up and keep going - it really matters.

These are the moments that quietly build to make a lasting difference in someone’s life. Our volunteers are out there doing this every single day.

Thank you so much 💛
