Have you, a family member or a friend been affected by cancer?

Macmillan Cancer Support and NHS Lothian are seeking feedback to help improve cancer services across the region.
Whether you are a patient, carer, family member, or friend, your experience can help shape future cancer care. Your experiences help us understand what cancer care is really like — what works well and what could be improved

By listening to your stories, we can:
• Influence how services are delivered
• Focus on the moments in care when people need the most support
• Design services around what matters most to patients and carers

Take part in a quick survey or get in touch for a one-to-one conversation with us.

For more information, contact Anne-Marie at [email protected] or 07483 692322.

🏠 Standing up for tenants and homeowners across Edinburgh

In 2025–26, CHAI’s Money and Housing Team continued to provide vital representation for people facing housing and court proceedings.

⚖️ Our advisers attended 263 court hearings through our Council Tenant and Court Representation and EHAP services.

Outcomes included:
• 92 cases continued by the Sheriff
• 60 cases sisted
• 36 cases continued by agreement
• 7 cases dismissed

Our EHAP team also attended 60 Housing & Property Chamber tribunal hearings, representing and supporting clients through often complex and stressful proceedings, for eviction and disrepair issues.

That’s 323 court and tribunal hearings attended over the year.

A huge thank you to our dedicated advisers and court representatives for their hard work, and for making sure our clients have advice, support and representation when they need it most. 💙

We're proud to have contributed to the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO)'s new Fair Funding in Scotland resource, with our CEO Teresa Sutherland sharing CHAI's experiences and a real-life case study to highlight the impact that insecure funding has on charities and the communities we support.

Behind every funding decision are real people. Fair, sustainable funding helps charities plan ahead, retain skilled staff, and continue delivering vital services to those who need them most.

This new resource brings together voices from voluntary organisations across Scotland, making the case for a more sustainable approach to funding that enables communities to thrive.

Take a look and find out why Fair Funding matters: https://loom.ly/NeNW2SQ

Fair Funding is about ensuring a voluntary sector funding landscape that is fair, flexible, sustainable, and accessible

A big thank you to our friends at Social Bite for inviting us along to their evening community meal last Thursday.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet so many people, catch up with some of our existing CHAI clients, and chat with others who wanted to find out more about the advice and support we offer.

Events like these are a great reminder of the importance of working together to connect people with the help they need. Thank you again to the Social Bite team for making us feel so welcome!

🎉 We’re delighted to be the Edinburgh Community Bookshop Charity of the Month for August! 📚💙

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Edinburgh Community Bookshop for choosing to support CHAI this month.

For almost 30 years, we've been helping people across Edinburgh with free, confidential and independent advice on benefits, debt, housing, employment and financial wellbeing. Every day we support people to maximise their income, resolve crises and build more secure futures.

Throughout August, every visit, purchase, donation and share helps raise awareness of the support available to people who need it most.

If you haven't already, why not pop into Edinburgh Community Bookshop? You'll be supporting a fantastic local bookshop while also helping local people facing financial hardship. You can also donate to CHAI here https://loom.ly/QUSZ8YM

Thank you to everyone who continues to support CHAI and the work we do in our communities. 💙

Did you know, if you buy things online, you can help CHAI raise funds at no additional cost to yourself? EasyFundraising act as a portal for over eight thousand online retailers who offer a donation to charity (usually a percentage) when you purchase from them. You can download the app for your phone from the Apple & Google stores or sign up and log in to EasyFundraising online https://loom.ly/BPr1w6w and access your chosen retailer’s website through that. Donations may seem small but it’s surprising how quickly they can add up.
