Next week is Week 2026, and CHAI is proud to support the campaign.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing messages from the campaign highlighting the realities of poverty, challenging the stigma that surrounds it, and calling for action to create a Scotland where everyone has enough to live with dignity.

At CHAI, we see every day the impact that financial insecurity can have on individuals and families. Challenge Poverty Week is an important opportunity to raise awareness, amplify people’s experiences and highlight the changes needed to tackle poverty.

Keep an eye on our social media throughout the week as we share the campaign’s key messages.

💰 Could you start a small savings habit?

For UK Savings Week, here are a few simple ideas:

✅ Start small — even £1 or £2 counts
✅ Set a realistic savings goal
✅ Put money aside automatically on payday if you can
✅ Keep savings in a separate account or savings pot
✅ Check whether your savings are earning a competitive rate
✅ Build up gradually — there’s no “right” amount to save

And remember: if you’re struggling to cover your everyday costs, saving may not be the priority right now.

CHAI can help with budgeting, benefits, debt and money advice to help you make the most of the income you have.

💷 UK Savings Week | 21–27 September

Saving doesn’t have to mean putting away large amounts of money. Even a small amount, when you can afford it, can help build a financial cushion for unexpected costs or future plans.

But we also know that, with household budgets under pressure, saving simply isn’t possible for everyone — and that’s okay.

If money is tight, the first step might instead be looking at your budget, checking you’re receiving everything you’re entitled to, or getting support with debts and essential costs.

At CHAI, we can help you look at your finances and explore ways to make your money go further.

CHAI will be attending a community advice stall at Scott Arthur’s surgery on 3 October 2026, offering information and advice to local constituents on energy efficiency, fuel costs and support with energy bills.

📢 New CHAI Drop-In Service in South West Edinburgh

From Tuesday 1 September, CHAI will be running a weekly drop-in at Gate 55 for anyone in the South West Edinburgh community who needs advice or support.

🕙 10:00am–12:30pm

Our advisers can help with welfare benefits, straightforward benefit forms, calls to benefit authorities, debt and housing issues.

We can provide quick advice, information and initial support. If your issue needs more time, we can arrange a full appointment with an adviser or connect you with another organisation that can help.

Great to see CHAI represented at the Edinburgh Guarantee Employability Event at the Assembly Rooms last week!

Tony, our Senior Employability Adviser, attended the event, which brought together employers, partners and support organisations from across the city to celebrate Employability Day.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with other organisations and help people find out more about employability, financial wellbeing and the wider support available to them.

Thanks to Edinburgh Guarantee and the City of Edinburgh Council for a great event!
