Sight Scotland Veterans

Sight Scotland Veterans Since 1915 we have been supporting veterans with sight loss in Scotland. Sight loss is a scary place to be. It can leave people feeling vulnerable and isolated.

But it needn’t be like that. With the right support things can be very different. Which is where we come in. Across Scotland, we provide support to empower ex-servicemen and women affected by sight loss to regain confidence, restore independence and make new connections. Our sister charity, Sight Scotland provides care and support that empowers people affected by sight loss in Scotland.

Niall played golf for years. Then problems with his eyesight meant giving up driving, and golf went with it.

Earlier this year, he was back on the course.

Our Sports and Partnership team took a group of members to TopGolf, working with Blind Golf Scotland to make the day accessible. For Niall, it's the camaraderie he loves most. Laughing at bad shots, his own and everyone else's.

Read his story and Jim's below.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a day to recognise what becomes possible when technology is built with everyone in mind.

Sight Scotland Veterans' Digital Hub is a good example of that in practice. Every week, more than 90 veterans with sight loss join virtual calls to connect, chat, and spend time with people who understand their experience.

For some, it has been genuinely life-changing. Christine, whose late partner Jimmy was a Digital Hub member, recently visited to meet the veterans he had connected with online. She wanted to thank the community that had meant so much to them both.

That kind of connection is what accessibility makes possible.

A weekly phone call has a life-changing impact on four vision-impaired veterans, one of whom had not left his house for over two years.

The Eurovision Grand Final is just over a week away. Have you got your sweepstake sorted?

The Grand Final is a week away on 16th May, which means you've still got time to get one running.

Download our free pack, charge everyone a small entry fee, and let fate decide who they're cheering for. The winner takes a share of the pot, and the rest goes to supporting people in Scotland living with a visual impairment.

35 countries. One winner. And a very tense Saturday night. 🎤

Download your free pack here: https://bit.ly/42XNUxc

Our Eurovision sweepstake is a simple way to bring people together and raise money for a cause that matters. Run it at work, in the pub, or with friends and family. All you need is a printer and a group of people who fancy their chances.
