Did you know that gardening is proven to reduce stress and increase wellbeing? We are keen to recruit more volunteers to help with gardening, nature and wildlife at Stow - whether that's helping Eric on our allotment or assisting our wildlife team at our popular Family Nature Days. John Guiver captured these pilots at Wings and Wheels in the moments before they took to the air - including Richard Vary in the Fokker triplane, John Gilbert in the Albatros and Jonathan Marten-Hale in the Isaacs Fury and Nieuport 17. We'll be seeing more amazing flying at The Stow Maries Air Show on August 16 - have you bought your tickets yet? www.stowmaries.org.uk/events

Our Family Nature Days are a great way to make memories out in the open air, and learn a bit about our native wildlife in the process. At our last event, Bobby, Frankie and Gracie hunted for butterflies, identified leaves, listened for bird calls and found a feather! We have nature days coming up on Sunday 21 June and Sunday 26 July, see www.stowmaries.org.uk/events Photos by Martin Johnson

We are excited about Airfirst's Beyond the Record Challenge on 17&18 June. Emma Munford from Blackbushe School of Flying will be unofficially attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for flying into the most airfields in 24hrs - and raising money to help Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in the process! The record is for 118 airfields, but Emma plans to touch down at 130 (including here). Money will go to Stow, The Kent Battle of Britain Museum and The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. Emma says: "We’ll be flying against the clock, battling fatigue, weather and logistics – but none of that compares to what those before us endured. This is our way of giving back. Every penny makes such a difference to these incredible places." You can find out more and support the challenge at https://www.gofundme.com/f/beyond-the-record-airfield-challenge?

Do you, or a family member, prefer things a little quieter? Our Friday openings often have a slower pace, which may suit some visitors with a disability or sensory needs. We have disabled parking, accessible toilets and good wheelchair access around the site, and one adult carer is admitted free with a reliant fee-paying disabled visitor. If you have any questions on access prior to your visit, do email [email protected]
