Our team has returned from Nepal!

While part of the team remained in Kathmandu delivering surgical care in Kirtipur, others travelled to Chitwan to support a regional outreach camp. This was one of seven clinics held across Nepal each year, each focusing on a different area of care - and this weekโ€™s theme was speech. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

This video is a small glimpse of an incredible tripโ€ฆ we canโ€™t wait to share more with you over the coming weeks.

Volunteersโ€™ Week (UK) ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Some things cannot be measured.
The time you give.
The care you offer.
The impact you create.
This week, we honour every person who stands alongside CLEFT and the cleft community.

To our fundraisers, clinicians and pro bono supporters who give so much of themselves.
And to those who guide and strengthen this work, our Trustees, Research Steering Committee, International Steering Committee, Student Section, Trainee Section and International Ambassadors.

You are all part of something deeply meaningful.
Different roles, one shared purpose.
What you give is not just time.
Because of you, lives are touched in ways that go far beyond what is visible.
Because of you, care reaches further.
Because of you, CLEFT's work exists and continues to reach those who need it most.
Thank you for being part of this shared future.

Just 10 days left to join the Great North Swim ๐Ÿ’™

The Great North Swim is the UKโ€™s largest open water swimming event, held in the stunning surroundings of Lake Windermere.

The one mile distance is a rewarding and achievable challenge, whether you are new to open water or looking for your next goal. The event is incredibly well organised, with strong safety support throughout.

If you are considering taking part for CLEFT, we would love to have you involved.
There is a suggested fundraising target of ยฃ500, but this is simply a goal. Every contribution matters... from donations, to conversations, to raising awareness of the work we do.

Time is limited, but there is still a chance to sign up and be part of something meaningful.

Weโ€™re delighted to share the outcomes of this cleft funded research into the Orticochea pharyngoplasty.
โœ… 86% of patients showed a clear improvement in speech, moving from noticeably nasal speech to normal or near normal speech
โœ… No serious side effects were identified
โœ… Outcomes were equally positive for children with and without a cleft palate

This study reviewed patients treated across two specialist NHS cleft centres over more than a decade, making it the largest group of patients treated by a single surgeon reported in the scientific literature.

The findings provide strong evidence that this surgery is a safe and effective option for improving speech

CLEFT is grateful to Patricia Rorison and the whole research team for their commitment to this project.

ยฃ1,500 raised for CLEFT ๐Ÿ’™

Last Sunday, Weronika completed her first ever 10K at London Olympic Park and raised over ยฃ1,500 including Gift Aid.

Weronika recently joined CLEFT as a trustee, and her connection to this mission is deeply personal. Born with a cleft, she experienced treatment across two countries. Her journey shaped her resilience and her understanding of how life changing expert care can be.

In her words:
โ€œI know how fortunate I was to receive treatment in the UK. Every child deserves access to that level of care.โ€

This belief is what inspired her to take on this challenge.

We could not be more grateful to Weronika, and to everyone who supported her.

If you would like to support in your own way, there is still time to join the Manchester 10K. Registration closes Thursday 28 May and the race takes place on 31 May.

Together, we are building a future where every child has access to the care they deserve.
