Maldon Town Council will host its annual Merchant Navy Day commemoration this Sunday 31 August, at 12noon on Hythe Quay. We invite our community to join us in honoring the brave men and women of the Merchant Navy.
As a historic maritime town, Maldon is the perfect place to pay tribute to those who served during both World Wars and beyond. The ceremony will feature a procession with war veterans, Town Councillors, dignitaries, accompanied by Piper Jo. You'll hear from the Salt Water & Beer Shanty Singers, participate in a service led by Father Andrew Appiah from St Mary's Church, and observe a two-minute silence marked by a cannon, followed by a reading of the Kohima.
Town Mayor. Cllr John Driver will lay a wreath on behalf of the Town, and the St Mary's and All Saints Church choirs will sing. The Red Ensign flag will be proudly displayed at Hythe Quay and Moot Hall.
This event is in aid of the Merchant Navy fund, with Maldon & District Cadets collecting donations. In case of bad weather, the service moves to St Mary's Church.
