Our Cyanotype workshops this week have been a great success! Spending meaningful time in our gardens observing the plants around us and exploring printmaking using the sun β˜€οΈ People felt connected to nature and each other as they experimented and learned a new skill. As well as cyanotype prints we made anthotypes using turmeric which turns a beautiful burnished red when exposed to the sun. The results are stunning! Thank you to everyone who attended, what a delightful couple of afternoons 😎🎨🌿
Many thanks to the The National Lottery Community Fund/ Cronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol for funding this project

We were in high spirits today at the Grow Well garden at Lansdowne Surgery! What a bumper harvest despite struggling with watering in the heatwaves.
We were so delighted to have successfully grown a cauliflower after several years of trying and most exciting of all we picked and ate delicious heritage peaches from our Marquess of Anglesey’s peach tree πŸ‘ kindly donated by Coed Caerdydd what a wonderful day! Thanks to all the volunteers for helping us keep the garden thriving through difficult times πŸ’š

We've had a lovely week focusing on Bees and Butterflies and how we can support them in our Grow Well gardens as part of our The National Lottery Community Fund/ Cronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol funded series of workshops.

We also visited The Mill Community garden to run one of the workshops, thanks to Cadarn Housing Group and the regular volunteers for their hospitality!

Getting new people and existing volunteers to explore the gardens, chat about nature and count butterflies/examine bees more closely was a joy, despite the heat πŸ₯΅

We've also had some beautiful butterflies painted and we're hoping the insects will come and take a drink at their new water pit stop stations! πŸπŸ¦‹

Huge thanks to the team for prepping nature activities and all the dried flowers/leaves for decoration 🌼🌿

Thanks also to Emma and Yousha from the Cardiff Local Nature Partnership who came down today to share their expertise with us πŸ’š

Well what a week! We celebrated FOUR Green Flags with our volunteer groups across the week, which gave us an opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment to the Grow Well gardens πŸ’š

Thanks to Keep Wales Tidy - Cadwch Gymru'n Daclus and Green Flag for Parks - Wales / Gwobr y Faner Werdd i Barciau - Cymru for all the support and guidance over recent years to keep us focused on developing and improving local green spaces for people to enjoy.

This in turn, enables us to support volunteers with their health & wellbeing in safe spaces and contributes to important connections with nature & small steps towards climate action when people can often feel powerless 🐝🌸πŸ₯•πŸŒ±

Thanks also to our supporting partners/ landlords across the West and South of the City, and ACE - Action in Caerau and Ely for letting us carry out our work alongside the other vital services they provide to support the community in Hubs and GP surgeries.

A lot of work goes into running these groups and gardens across the year, so a massive thank you also goes to the Grow Well team for their dedication and commitment to the project and people we work alongside all year round πŸ˜ŠπŸ™

We're taking a break next week so there are NO GARDEN SESSIONS at our four sites. Please stop by and enjoy them, all are accessible during the day! πŸŒΈβ˜€οΈ

This week, we've been busy supporting volunteers, maintaining gardens & running sessions/workshops.

We've also been prepping by picking flowers to dry for creating dyes and experimenting with natural combinations for cyanotype workshops in August 🌼

We're at the Nature Festival tomorrow 10-2pm at Llandaff Fields, come and say hi, and pick up a list of our summer workshops πŸ’š.

We'll be running an activity alongside other groups and organisations supporting nature recovery and working to promote health and wellbeing across Cardiff's green spaces.

Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund/ Cronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol for their support to enable us to run our workshops.
