Yesterday, our incredible volunteers at Hodge Bank spent a morning packing more than 1,500 Castle 2 Castle runner packs! 👏

That’s over 1,500 race numbers, t-shirts, and pins – plus plenty of excitement for a very special day 💚🏰

Our incredible Derek the Weatherman is one of Velindre’s most loyal and valued Ambassadors — and he’s been by our side through countless walks, treks, and challenges over the years! ☀️👣

Today, we’re taking a stroll down memory lane and celebrating some of Derek’s favourite Velindre moments 💫

From Victory Over Cancer walks through the beautiful Welsh countryside 🌿 to taking on epic trekking adventures in Sierra Nevada and Cuba ⛰️, Derek has always been there to support our participants every step of the way.

Whether he’s offering a smile, a word of encouragement, or helping to keep spirits high when the going gets tough, Derek’s kindness, enthusiasm, and dedication have made a lasting impact on so many people💚

Hair loss can have a huge impact on a patient’s confidence and wellbeing during treatment. Thanks to your support, Velindre is able to provide practical and emotional support that helps patients feel more like themselves.

“With the help of the wig voucher I received from Velindre, it made my ordeal slightly better. I did not have to worry about the cost of my wig.”

For every £100 raised, we can fund a wig voucher for a patient. With so many patients accessing this support each year, the impact of your generosity cannot be underestimated.

Today, we celebrated Ruby Thomas 💚

Ruby is an exceptional 16-year-old girl who has developed a guide for young people: "Coping with a Loved One's Cancer".

This afternoon, Velindre Cancer Service held a launch of Ruby's guide, with speeches from John Union, Michele Pengelly, and Ruby herself, complete with a musical performance from Oscar Hartland.

The guide is a truly powerful piece of work – written by a young person for another young person. Ruby's creativity and personal experience shines through – and her use of art, music, and poetry makes the guide deeply honest and vulnerable. The impact it will have on other young people who going through similar situations is immense.

We are beyond proud to fund the Arts in Health programme at Velindre, which enabled this project to develop. To be a small part of Ruby's incredible dedication and hard work is so special for us as a charity, and she is an outstanding role model to any young people who want to make a difference in the world.

Ruby, you are truly inspiring – thank you for your courage and compassion.

Thankfully, our Castle 2 Castle Patrons Liam Reardon and Shane Williams are proving that no matter which way you’re facing, it’s all about putting one foot in front of the other.
