Bristol Pride events start next week! Two weeks of incredible events across the city culminating in the massive Pride Day Festival and Parade March on Saturday 11 July.

Pride is as much needed now as it ever was. There are those that seek to erode our rights and erase us from society. Pride is a vital event to showcase and support our community. To connect us, uplift us and for visibility, because we are not going anywhere.

At a time when our community is under attack more than ever it's important to remember why Pride is still needed, to bring community together, to pushback against hate, to tell stories, to protest harmful legislation and to maintain our rights. It's also about celebration and to be able to have joy and to exist but also to thrive. Now more than ever we need to come together as a community and be there for each other.

For some people, Pride is a celebration. For others, it is protest. It can be love, fight, joy, solidarity, expression, history, empowerment and equality. Often, it is many of these things at once.

Across last year’s programme, we asked people what Pride means to them. Their answers remind us that there is no single meaning of Pride. Each experience is valid, and each one adds colour to the collective story.

Thank you to everyone who will be joining us this year, lending your voice, being visible, marching for those that can't, coming together to support friends, supporting those coming to Pride for the first time. Helping programme and make events happen, volunteering, donating, coming to events and getting tickets so that we can keep being there for you.

At Bristol Pride we are proud to have a strong Ethical Sponsorship and Partnership Policy. Following meetings and conversations with Bristol Qu**rs for Palestine we're pleased to be able to further our commitment to the environment, human rights and ethics.

We already ban companies from the fossil fuel sector involved in exploration, extraction, processing, or sale and companies in the arms sector. In addition to this we will now take this a step further and extend this to companies involved in the direct financing of fossil fuel and/or arms sector.

Bristol Pride is a not for profit charity and we have to raise every penny to make Pride happen, your donations and partners to the festival help us to pay for vital parts of our festival and allow us to heavily subsidise ticket costs to ensure Pride is financially accessible to all. Our policy is in place to help us only work with organisations that demonstrate ethical, environmental and social responsibility.

Today marks 10 years since the Pulse nightclub shooting.

On 12 June 2016, 49 people were killed and 53 others were injured at Pulse, an LGBT+ nightclub in Orlando, in an attack that targeted our community.

Today, we remember the 49 people whose lives were taken. We say their names, we hold them in our thoughts, and we stand with their friends, families, loved ones and everyone still affected by this tragedy.

Ten years on, LGBTQ+ people around the world are still facing hate, violence, discrimination and fear. We see it in our cities, across the UK, across Europe and globally. In some countries, consensual same-sex relationships are still criminalised, and in some places they can still be punished by death.

That is why remembrance is not only about looking back. It is also about standing together in the present, speaking out against hate, and continuing to fight for a world where LGBTQ+ people can live safely, and with dignity.
