International Childrens day 2026
To remeber World Children’s Day, we gathered together on College Green, Bristol
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child states that every child has the right to life, safety, education, family, identity, culture, language, healthcare, play, and protection from violence and exploitation. These rights should be universal. Yet for millions of Ukrainian children, these rights have been shattered by war.
As of 31 May 2026, according to official Ukrainian data, 705 children have been killed as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. More than 2,500 children have been injured. Over 2,300 children are officially missing. More than 20,500 children have been deported or forcibly displaced, and only a small proportion have been returned to their families.
These are not just numbers. Behind every statistic is a child who should have been playing, learning, dreaming, and growing up in safety. They deserve the opportunity to learn, to dream, to thrive, and to grow up in safety and peace and protecting those rights is a responsibility that belongs to every one of us.
