You never know where a conversation could take you!

Yesterday at Spark Youth, we welcomed the fantastic team from NatWest for our Bank Your Future Career Expo, helping young people discover the many career opportunities available within banking.

For some of the young people who joined us, banking wasn't an industry they had ever seriously considered. Some arrived feeling hesitant, unsure of what it involved or whether it was something for them.

But by the end of the day, those perceptions had changed. Young people left with a better understanding of the industry, new ideas about their future and a genuine interest in exploring what might be possible.

And it doesn't stop there!

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of the NatWest team, interested young people can now submit an expression of interest and their CV for the chance to visit the bank's Liverpool branch, enjoy lunch with the team and take part in interviews. Those successful at interview will then have the opportunity to experience an action-packed work experience programme.

A huge thank you to NatWest for investing in our young people, sharing their knowledge and helping turn curiosity into real opportunities.

Bringing the world of work to the next generation

We were delighted to welcome James Gregory and the team from Intact Insurance, alongside UK Youth, to Spark Youth for a fantastic, interactive session that brought the insurance industry to life for 23 young people.

The session began with a warm welcome from our CEO, Kevin Rodgers, before the Intact team rolled up their sleeves and got involved. They went above and beyond to engage with our young people, share their experiences and offer valuable insights into the world of work.

From exploring career pathways to learning about the opportunities available within the insurance sector, the session gave young people the chance to ask questions, broaden their horizons, overcome challenges and discover possibilities they may never have previously considered.

This is what meaningful collaboration looks like.

At Spark Youth, we believe that connecting employers directly with young people is one of the most powerful ways to raise aspirations, build confidence and help develop the next generation of talent.

For employers, these sessions are an amazing opportunity to engage with future employees, showcase their industry, challenge perceptions and help young people understand the diverse opportunities available to them. It’s about more than recruitment. It’s about investing in people and helping shape the workforce of tomorrow.

And the collaboration doesn’t stop there!

We’re thrilled that Intact Insurance has opened the doors of its Liverpool office to young people interested in undertaking a work experience placement. This will give them the opportunity to gain first-hand experience, explore the workplace environment and develop a deeper understanding of the industry.

A huge thank you to James Gregory and the entire Intact team for their energy, enthusiasm and commitment to making a genuine difference. Your willingness to go beyond a traditional employer engagement session and create meaningful opportunities for our young people is exactly the kind of partnership that makes a lasting impact.

Thank you also to UK Youth for helping make these opportunities possible by supporting grassroots organisations in communities where they are needed most.

A huge thank you to Magenta Living! 💜

We've just taken delivery of tablets that will go straight to the Spark Youth members who need them most. For many families, having a reliable device at home makes a real difference: keeping up with schoolwork, applying for jobs and training, staying connected with friends and accessing the support that's out there.

No young person should miss out on opportunities because they don't have the right tech. Thanks to Magenta Living, more of our young people now have the tools they need to get ahead.

We’ve had a few changes happening behind the scenes at Spark, and we’re delighted to welcome two new faces to the team!

Meet Ethan Murray, who has joined us as a Development Officer. Ethan joins Spark from Vibe, where he gained experience as a Youth Worker and developed a real passion for supporting young people. At Spark, he’ll be working alongside our Employment Team, supporting young people with job searching and applications, employer events, interviews and taking those all-important next steps towards employment and training. You’ll also see Ethan getting involved across the Hub and getting to know the young people we support.

We’re also really pleased to welcome Jemma Rodgers, who has joined us as a Development Officer. Jemma joins us from Alternative Futures Group, where she worked as a Youth Worker, Employment Adviser and SEND Specialist. She brings a wealth of experience in supporting young people and a great understanding of the different challenges and opportunities they can face. Jemma will be working across our employment provision while also getting involved in the wider work happening across Spark.

Both Ethan and Jemma are already settling in, getting to know the team and becoming part of life at the Hub.

If you see them around Spark, make sure you say hello and give them both a proper Spark welcome!

Got a business idea? Ready to make it happen?

Find out more about Business Bootcamp at our Information Session on Wednesday 14th October at 1pm.

Our six-month programme is designed for young people aged 16–30 with a business concept or idea who want to develop their skills, build their confidence and turn their idea into a real business.

You’ll discover how the programme can support you with everything from business planning and branding to marketing, finance, legal structures, developing your product and pitching your idea.
