💙 A huge thank you to one of our incredible charity abseilers for sharing her story and taking on last weekend's abseil challenge in support of Wirral Mencap.
Seventeen years ago, while expecting her first child, Eleanor, every parent's worst nightmare became reality. The day before she was due to be induced at 42 weeks, Eleanor stopped moving.
After 24 minutes of resuscitation, doctors managed to save her life. Eleanor was diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE), which has led to cerebral palsy, hearing loss, epilepsy, learning difficulties, and the need for a feeding tube.
Throughout Eleanor's life, charities have played a vital role in helping her access specialist equipment, safe places to play, and opportunities that have improved her quality of life. As Eleanor approaches adulthood, her mum wanted to give something back to the charitable sector that has supported their family over the years.
After hearing about our charity abseil from fellow Ellesmere Port Womble Loyd, she signed up to take on the challenge for Wirral Mencap – and successfully completed the abseil last weekend!
Her goal is to raise enough money to cover six months of venue hire, helping us continue to run social clubs where adults with learning disabilities can learn new skills, build friendships, and enjoy new experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
We're delighted to share that she has already raised nearly £400 towards her fundraising target. 🎉
From everyone at Wirral Mencap, thank you for your courage, generosity and support. We are incredibly grateful, and we're sure you'll agree that her story is a powerful reminder of the difference charities can make in people's lives.
💙 Thank you for helping us continue to create opportunities, connections and experiences for adults with learning disabilities across Wirral.
