A brilliant Sunday booking! 🎉
Natalie, Chris and their team hired the hall for a three-hour taster session and had a fantastic time. One member even commented that more happened in those three hours than on entire nights at other locations!
We can’t wait to see what they captured for TikTok. 👀📱

The Thin Veil
At Halloween, it is believed that the veil between the physical world and the spiritual (or “other”) world is at its thinnest. This means spirits (the Aos Si, also called fairies) can easily cross between realms and enter our world. The ancient Celts felt the need to please the spirits in order to ensure that their population and livestock did not die during the harsh winter. Food and drink were often left for the fairies, and occasionally an animal was sacrificed to appease the spirits.
Souls of the departed were believed to revisit their homes seeking hospitality. In some cases, a place setting of food or drink was put on the dining table in anticipation of the visit. Mumming, or wearing disguises were part of the festival and involved people going door to door in costume or disguise, reciting verse in exchange for food. Trick-or-treating, anyone?

Excellent night in the basement - great to see the hall being used for community projects. And it wasn’t spooky at all they created witches decorations in the carpeted meeting room 👻

Did you know that tucked away in the corner of the Clifton Hall grounds there’s a sealed-off passageway that once led directly to Rodney Street? Beside the entrance on the Clifton Hall side stands a remarkably old and ornate lamppost — a small but striking reminder of the building’s past.

We’re still not entirely sure why this entryway was created, why it remained undeveloped, or who used it most. It may even have served the Baptist congregation during the building’s chapel years. Just imagine how many footsteps have passed through that narrow passage, and the stories carried with them.

Clifton Hall is a place layered with history, mystery, and memories. During your next investigation, perhaps you’ll uncover a few more answers.
