As National Walking Month continues, you're invited to join our Wellbeing Walks in Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

These free, hour-long walks are perfect for anyone, especially if you're currently doing little or no exercise. Walk at your own pace with our trained volunteer leaders and enjoy a friendly chat over a drink at the end.

One participant shared, "I can’t praise them enough. It was important to my recovery and has helped so many of our members after health problems, bereavement and loneliness. It’s fun and the social aspect is so important… Walking keeps you healthy."

Bus services changing in Bedford Borough - do you know someone who might be affected? 🚍

With recent changes and withdrawals to some local bus services, many older residents and those with mobility challenges may find it harder to get out and about.

So we’re asking: do you know someone who could benefit from extra support with transport?

Beds RCC offers a Door-to-Door Transport Service for people who:

✔ Live in Bedford Borough
✔ Are of state pension age
✔ Struggle to use or access public transport

Our friendly, reliable service can help people get to:

🛒 Shops
🏥 Medical appointments
👥 Social activities
… and more.

Many eligible people simply don’t know we exist - especially those who have relied on local bus routes that are now changing.

If you have a friend, neighbour or relative who might be affected, please let them know about us. It could make a real difference to their independence and wellbeing.

Get in touch to find out more or refer someone: https://bit.ly/3Pjmvmp

Let’s make sure no one is left isolated due to transport changes!

Are you looking for a volunteering opportunity? Flitwick Station needs you!

Community rail partnerships (CRPs) have been set up across the country to encourage people to become involved in ‘their’ local railway. The Beds & Herts CRP is no exception.

You could be part of ‘adopting’ a station and support by helping to maintain station planters or ensure the community book exchange is stocked.

Please contact Debra on 07951 175241 or [email protected].

You can also pop along to Flitwick Leisure Centre on Wednesday 27 May between 10:30 and 12pm for a chat.

Grow Buddies - bringing neighbours together through food growing 🌱

Do you love the idea of growing your own food but don’t have the space? Or do you have a garden that you’re not able to tend anymore and would welcome a helping hand?

Grow Buddies matches:

✅ People who’d like to grow food but don’t have a suitable garden
✅ With people who have gardens but are unable to cultivate them due to reduced mobility or other reasons

Volunteers and garden owners are matched locally, the food is shared and it’s a great way to get to know someone new in your neighbourhood 🤝

The project also includes supportive workshops, with free starter plants and seeds, to help build confidence in growing food.
