The Prophet ﷺ described the believers as one body. When one part suffers, the rest cannot simply carry on as if nothing happened.

That is what our bond as an Ummah is meant to look like. Mercy that moves us, compassion that shows up, and concern for one another that goes beyond words.

Someone else's hardship should never feel like someone else's problem.

Why should a school take part in Charity Week?

Because it is about far more than raising money.

It gives young Muslims the opportunity to lead, work together, serve others and experience what unity looks like in practice.

A message from Afifah School to every school, university and community thinking about getting involved:

Do not just teach the next generation about the Ummah. Give them the opportunity to build it together.

They arrived in Madinah with almost nothing. The Ansar welcomed them, shared what they had, and helped them begin again.

The bond between the Muhajirun and the Ansar was more than kindness. It was brotherhood put into action, even when giving meant going without.

Allah describes their generosity in Surah Al-Hashr (59:9), reminding us of those who gave others preference over themselves, even when they were in need.

Centuries later, the question still stands: what are we willing to sacrifice for one another?

14 years of Charity Week.

That means generations of students growing up with the experience of giving, organising, serving and working together for something beyond themselves.

Year after year, Manchester Islamic Grammar School for Girls has made Charity Week part of its community, passing the spirit from one group of students to the next.

This is what happens when Charity Week becomes more than an annual event.

It becomes part of a culture. A legacy. A generation learning to serve the Ummah together.

One well, one act of generosity, and a legacy that continues to benefit people long after the deed was done.

Uthman ibn Affan (RA) bought the Well of Rumah and made its water freely available to the people of Madinah. A reminder that sometimes the most lasting impact comes from giving others access to something as simple, and as essential, as water.

That is the beauty of sadaqah jariyah. A good deed whose benefits continue long after it is given.

May Allah allow us to give in ways that continue to benefit others. Ameen.

Charity Week was never meant to end when the fundraising stops.

The real impact can be seen in the people who discover what they are capable of, the friendships that continue, the communities that become stronger and the young Muslims who learn what it means to work together for the Ummah.

A week of action can shape people for years.

The money matters. But so does the generation we are building together.
