Catherine Gaudet holds a B.A. and M.A. in contemporary dance from UQAM, and has established herself as a choreographer with a strong, singular signature. Reaching beneath the mask of social convention, she tracks down the jolts of the unconscious and the micromovements in the body that betray the emotions and sensations we try to hide. Obsessed by the quest for existential truth, she delves into the meanders of the psyche, seeking beauty in contradiction. Her state dance emerges from forces that oppose, constrain and control her flayed-looking characters. Her raw, precise physicality is mingled with a theatricality that subtly combines dramatic tension, a sense of the absurd and black humor.

Dance artist and choreographer Sasha Ashwini, 2025 Second Place recipient of the Louise Bentall Biennial Award for Emerging British Columbia Choreographers, presents an excerpt from her work-in-progress, CROSSING DEEP WATERS.

The presentation opens into a dialogue with Tasha Faye Evans and Sujit Vaidya on how to interrogate inherited dance-making practices — unsettling expectations on form, methodology, and post-colonial identity construction while holding cultural frameworks and the Western gaze in generative tension.

Taking place at the Ocean Artworks Pavilion on Granville Island, this intimate Tiffin Talk pairs thoughtful dialogue with a shared meal, creating space for connection, reflection, and community.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we've raised $5,000 towards our $15,000 goal.

To help us reach our next milestone, we're introducing a special challenge: the donor whose gift takes us past the halfway mark of $7,500 will receive a pair of tickets to Company Wayne McGregor's Deepstaria, a striking new choreographic work inspired by the mysterious deep-sea jellyfish of the same name, coming to Vancouver as part of DanceHouse's 2026/27 season.
