We're going down memory lane to celebrate 10 years of Food Stash 🫶 These pictures are from 2020, a challenging year for many of us, with the COVID-19 pandemic leading to increased rates of food insecurity.

In 2020, we partnered with 11 new food donors, purchased a refrigerated truck, doubled our Food Box delivery program, and even started a pilot program where we partnered with Shift Delivery bikes to deliver food boxes with zero emissions.

This was the year when many of us were forced to adapt and grow, whether it was emergency food response or short-term partnerships with chefs to avoid food waste.

Last week, we got a surprise call from Wonderbread asking to donate some bread.... we obviously said yes!

What turned out to be some bread was actually 2508 lbs of bread 🍞 This was perfectly timed for our Thursday Market, where members shop for produce, dairy, protein, and bread!

Thanks to Wonderbread Canada for the delivery, and for truly giving our neighbours a sight to see.

A recent review from our Rescued Food Market member🫶

Our Market program is a low-cost, low-barrier shopping experience where members can choose what they want to take home. Our members visit the market for different reasons, including affordability (it's only $3 per market), knowing they are helping fight food waste, and a really welcoming environment.

Rescuing food is a key (and easy) way to protect our environment! But why?

When food waste ends up in the garbage, it produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas with a strong warming effect. Wasted food also means wasted resources, including fuel, soil, water, and nutrients, so the best thing we can do is prevent food waste - which is what we do every day! We can also make sure that if food is going to waste, it's ending up in the compost rather than the landfill.

That's why at Food Stash, every food rescue is a win for the planet!
In 2025, Greenhouse Gas Accounting confirmed that our work prevented 108 tonnes of net CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas emissions. This is equivalent to taking 22.9 gas-powered cars off the road for one year!

Every pound of food we rescue is a small act of climate action — and it all adds up. If you'd like to be a part of that work, we'd love your support this Earth Day.

Our donors are the reason we're able to rescue perfectly good 'imperfect' food 7 days a week and get it to thousands of community members who need and appreciate it. Financial donations usually decline sharply in spring and summer, but the need for food rescue is higher than ever!

This Earth Day, show your love for our planet. hashtag

When you donate, you'll be supporting your community to get access to healthy food while fighting food waste in Vancouver.
