Thank you for making tonightʻs performance a memorable one.

Musica intima loved working with you. Your generosity, and always hearing peoples stories made us feel so comfortable to dive into what we presented on the stage.

Thank you .geronimo and for playing with us. Absolutely loved all the moments when we were connecting.

Thank you to our predecessor, Jacob who planed Sankofa originally. Because tonight was very special and it was the exact project we and the community needed.

Thank you council and Deux Mille Foundation for making this production possible.

And of course, thank YOU for always supporting us. Musica intima has such warm and kind audience members. We will not be here if it wasnt for you all.

We had an outreach at the Carnegie Community Centre, thank you to !

We had people joining us singing many of the songs and it felt so good to be one with the community.

Special thanks to Ben who has organized this and also has been very supportive of the outreach. We have another one at Strathcona library on June 9th.

We started our rehearsal for Sankofa and can not get over how powerful and emotional these songs are.

She educates us so much with the stories and the history behind each pieces. We are learning so much already.

We are so excited to meet Dawn for our first rehearsal of Sankofa this week!!
For all of us, this cycle will be such an incredible, eye opening and growing opportunity to create music along with amazing musician like her!

For those who don't know Dawn,

Dawn Pemberton is a vibrant, soulful Canadian vocalist and multiple Juno Award nominee whose powerful voice moves effortlessly from gospel and soul to jazz, funk, and world music. A staple of the Vancouver music scene, she has toured extensively across Canada and Europe, sharing stages with legends like Bettye LaVette and Kurt Elling, and opening for Maceo Parker and St. Paul & The Broken Bones.

musica intima is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Cris Derksen. While we never had the privilege of working with her directly, we have long admired her immense impact as a brilliant cellist and composer. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and the entire musical community mourning this loss.

The UBC-educated Derksen was killed in a car crash while driving home from her father's funeral in Northern Alberta.
