We're pleased to share the photos from CPHR BC & Yukon's Member Recognition Gala 2025, which took place on Feb. 3. It was an inspiring evening as we honoured distinguished HR professionals, including newest FCPHR and HR Spotlight recipients, as well as the Class of 2024 CPHR designates.

The 2024 HR Spotlight program is generously sponsored by Humi; the CPHR Class of 2024 presentation is graciously supported by Simon Fraser University | Continuing Studies; and the cocktail reception is warmly supplied by TD Insurance. Thank you to Butter Studios for the wonderful photos.

HR Professionals Day is an opportunity to recognize the hard work of HR staff. From 'welfare secretaries' in the early 1900s to 'personnel managers' in the 1940s to the many different titles that reflect the demands of today's workplaces like ensuring DEI and managing information systems, it's clear that human resource professionals have long been vital to an organization's ability to operate and grow.

We wanted to know what attracted CPHR BC & Yukon members to the HR profession and here's the response provided by Rachel Wehrmann, CPHR.

How about you? What was it that originally drew you to working in HR? Let us know!

September 18 is International Equal Pay Day, as designated by the UN to raise awareness of the gender pay gap and the ongoing struggle for equal pay for work of equal value. Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, this day serves as a call to action for governments, organizations, and individuals to address pay disparities. We took this opportunity to ask CPHR BC & Yukon members about their thoughts on the progress towards equal pay. Press 'play' below to find out what Amandeep Kochar, CPHR (Métis Nation British Columbia) had to say about the subject.

We turn the question over to all of you: What do you think of the progress that we've made towards equal pay across Canada in recent years?

What is the ideal workplace culture in today's hybrid world of work? Work-life balance was virtually non-existent with Boomers, marginally became a concept with Generation X, and is now front and centre with Millennials and Gen Z leading the charge. CPHR BC & Yukon's CEO, Anthony Ariganello, explores this topic in his latest article, including the recent trend of quiet vacationing.

How can HR professionals and organizations motivate employees to be productive while supporting their needs outside of work?
