When a tumour is in the lungs, liver or pancreas, it doesn't sit still. It moves every time a patient breathes. That's one of the hardest challenges in radiation therapy, and it's exactly what BC Cancer – Vancouver's newest piece of equipment was built to solve.

The new Accuray Radixact linear accelerator (LINAC) started treating patients this July. It's the first of its kind in B.C., and it uses built-in imaging to track a tumour in real time, so treatment stays precisely on target no matter how the body shifts.

Picture six weeks of hands-on research, mentorship and discovery, led by Indigenous high school and university students from across B.C.

That's Seed2STEM. This summer, the program gave students the chance to work side by side with BC Cancer researchers.

At the end of the program, students shared their work with family, friends and staff at a special poster day. Their posters focused on supporting patients and inspiring future students to join the program.

Donations helped bring Seed2STEM to BC Cancer, and continued support will help more students, including those from remote communities, take part in years to come.

Every spring, riders across B.C. and the Yukon hop on their motorcycles for Ride For Dad Canada, and this year their fundraising added up to something big: a $110,000 investment in prostate cancer research at BC Cancer – Kelowna.

"As someone who has faced prostate cancer myself, I know firsthand how important research is for patients and their families," says Bob Charron, Chair of the B.C. Chapter of Motorcycle Ride for Dad.

The funds will support Dr. Juanita Crook's brachytherapy research, helping doctors understand how each patient responds to treatment so care can be even more personalized. A man living with metastatic prostate cancer told Dr. Lauren Capozzi his dream was simple: to walk his daughter down the aisle. It became more than a moment of hope. It became a plan.

As BC Cancer’s first cancer physiatrist, Dr. Capozzi helps patients not only survive cancer, but live fully through it. Her work in rehabilitation care supports patients from diagnosis through recovery — helping them stay stronger, manage pain and hold onto what matters most.

BC Cancer staff work hard every single day, so we brought the thank you to them!

BC Cancer Foundation held a Staff Appreciation Ice Cream Day at BC Cancer – Vancouver, and the response was incredible. In under 50 minutes, our team handed out 620 ice creams from Rocky Point Ice Cream to staff on one of the hottest days this summer.

To every BC Cancer – Vancouver staff member who stopped by for a scoop: thank you for everything you do, every single day. This one was for you.

And we're not stopping there. We'll be bringing Ice Cream Day to more BC Cancer centres across the province next month, because staff everywhere deserve the same thank you!
