The CoDevelopment Canada Association annual general meeting is all set for September 16.

If you are interested in joining the CoDev Board of Directors, go to our home page for a link to more information about eligibility and requirements, and complete a nomination form before September 2, 2026.

In order to vote or run for the Board you must be a member in good standing no fewer than 14 days prior to the AGM, and pre-register so we know you're coming and can put out plenty of seats, fair trade coffee, and snacks for everyone!

We are looking for a Program Assistant to join our staff team.

0.40 FTE (15 hours per week). Starting annual salary is $31,145.40 ($39.93 hourly), plus generous vacation. This is a unionized position. The start date is October 5, 2026.

The Program Assistant works with CoDev’s Education Program Director on administrative tasks related to the organization’s international programming and internal operations. Secondary responsibilities for outreach and public education, as well as general office duties, are included in the person’s job activities as time allows. This is an on-site position.

The Americas Policy Group and Common Frontiers, two national multi-sectoral coalitions of labour, environmental, faith-based, civil society and social justice organizations, strongly denounce Canada’s abstention at the July 7th United Nations vote on Cuba.

Cuba faces a dire humanitarian crisis and heightened threats from the United States to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Our member organizations’ Cuban partners tell us that the deepening US sanctions are leading to the slow, preventable and inhumane death of the Cuban people.

On May 7, UN experts asserted that the U.S. fuel blockade on Cuba “amounts to ‘energy starvation’ with grave consequences for human rights and the country’s overall development.”

The decades-long economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba has caused massive economic and social hardship on the Cuban people and violates UN charter principles. United Nations experts have called the U.S. government’s January 29 executive order, which imposed a fuel blockade on Cuba, “a serious violation of international law and a grave threat to a democratic and equitable international order.”

Canada must affirm its foreign policy on Cuba, oppose the fuel blockade and extraterritorial sanctions against Cuba and call for the respect of Cuban sovereignty, territorial integrity and the full spectrum of human rights in Cuba.

📢 Canada must strengthen corporate accountability, NOT eliminate it!

The Americas Policy Group (APG) strongly condemns the Carney government's decision to eliminate the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE).

Communities affected by the overseas operations of Canadian companies deserve more accountability, not less. Rather than abolishing CORE, the government should have strengthened its independence and investigative powers so it could effectively address allegations of human rights abuses and environmental harm. This decision leaves workers, Indigenous Peoples, and communities with fewer avenues to seek justice and undermines Canada's commitment to responsible business conduct.

CoDevelopment Canada is profoundly saddened by the loss of a stalwart in our movement for global solidarity among working peoples, Stephanie Smith (in red in photo).

For a decade, Stephanie showed up strong for the BCGEU’s solidarity partner organizations in Latin America.
A leader from the base and always accountable and responsive to that base, Stephanie Smith embodied integrity and solidarity through her actions and words and being.

Amidst the National General Strike in Colombia, during which scores of civilians were killed and disappeared and hundreds more injured and detained, Stephanie ensured that the BCGEU’s Colombian partners, NOMADESC, had space to reach their partners at the BCGEU AGM in June 2021 and had the full support of the BCGEU throughout the Strike. When BCGEU’s partners, CODEMUH, launched their campaign to hold Gildan to account for the dismissal of its injured workers when the company shut down its San Miguel factory in 2023, Stephanie immediately answered the call by stewarding the weight of the union behind CODEMUH’s campaign. These are just some of the acts of solidarity led by Stephanie on a regular basis.

Stephanie stood up for and stood in solidarity with labour activists and human rights defenders around the world.

We will miss Stephanie’s sincerity, her intrepid spirit, her humanity, and her accompaniment in the struggle.

"Throughout our visit, the Cuban people expressed deep gratitude for acts of solidarity from around the world. Unions and other organizations have sent containers of supplies, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, pressured governments to condemn the blockade, gathered thousands of petition signatures and organized mass demonstrations, some of which have drawn tens of thousands of participants.

The labour movement here in Canada must continue to oppose the blockade, militarism and foreign intervention, and push governments toward independent foreign policies grounded in peace and support for international law."
