A week at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 was about so much more than competition. ๐Ÿ™Œ

It was about personal bests, new friendships, acts of sportsmanship, and moments that reminded us what makes the Special Olympics movement so special. โค๏ธ

For Maire Anderson (first pic, on the right) of Campbell River, being part of Team BC's first women's soccer team to compete at National Games was a dream come true. ๐Ÿคฉ

โ€œSpecial Olympics means so much to me. I have made new friends, and it is giving me the opportunity to play the game I love at a high level. It has been a dream of mine.โ€

Behind every athlete was an incredible community of coaches, mission staff, sponsors, donors, families, friends, and supporters who made this journey possible. ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you for every early morning, every word of encouragement, every act of kindness, and every moment of support. Together, you helped create memories that will last a lifetime and a National Games experience our athletes will never forget. ๐Ÿซถ

The Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 were about competition, but they were also about growth. Throughout the week, Special Olympics Team BC athletes pushed their limits, supported one another, and proved that every personal best is an achievement worth celebrating.

Today, SO Team BC athletes are travelling home after a spectacular week in Medicine Hat. They return to B.C. with more than 340 medals, countless personal victories, and memories that will last a lifetime. While their bodies may be tired, their hearts are full of pride, accomplishment, and friendship!

Reflecting on her Games experience, SO Team BC women's soccer athlete Julie Black shared:

"What sticks out to me most is playing together as a team and getting to know the other girls and athletes. It's been really nice. The coaches have been amazing, even though they've only been training us for a short time. We've become a great team and great friends. Today we did really well. We won silver, which was a big deal for us because we didn't even think we were going to medal."

As we celebrate the conclusion of an incredible week, we recognize the athletes, coaches, and mission staff whose dedication helped bring more than 340 medals home to British Columbia while creating unforgettable moments along the way.

And to the families, caregivers, friends, and fans who cheered from the sidelines and from home, thank you. Your support helped make these dreams possible.

Congratulations, SO Team BC. Safe travels home, and thank you for inspiring us all. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Day 3 at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 was filled with unforgettable moments. โœจ

Our athletes continued to compete with determination and pride, helping push Special Olympics Team BC's medal count to more than 260 medals as we head into the final day of competition.

For swimmer Michael Chen, representing SO Team BC is about more than results:

"Being part of Special Olympics Team BC is an accomplishment for me, and I feel proud representing Vancouver and B.C. My goal for National Games is to win medals and to make it to Team Canada for the Special Olympics World Games in 2027. In swimming, I like the strokes I do, and when I set best times, I feel proud. Also, I like cheering on my teammates during their races."

With one day of competition remaining, we're proud of everything SO Team BC has accomplished and can't wait to see what Saturday brings! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
