Lightwell Learning LDS - Learn. Develop. Succeed. LDS is a growing, innovative, research-based nonprofit charity.

We serve children, youth, and adults with diagnosed or suspected learning differences like ADHD and dyslexia. We offer individualized, evidence-based programs that target each student’s learning needs. These programs are available throughout BC online, in our Learning Centres, at schools, and in our mobile classroom. Giving students the support they need when they need it leads to better life and learning outcomes. We provide affordable programs so that all students can get the expert instruction they need. LDS students are developing confidence, meeting goals and realizing their full potential.

Instead of asking: "How much screen time is my child getting?"

Ask: "What is my child doing on the screen?"

Live online learning is:

🛋️ More comfortable: Learning in a familiar home environment can help learners stay regulated and reduces transition time

💪 Independence-building: Live online learning provides opportunities to develop executive functioning skills, such as logging in on time and being organized for class

🎯 Individualized: Educators can adapt and personalize instruction as they go

🌐 Accessible: All you need is an internet connection

October is and we'd like to clear some things up!

❌ MYTH: ADHD is a laziness problem.
✅ FACT: ADHD is neurodevelopmental. In fact, it's about as hereditable as height!

❌ MYTH: People with ADHD can't ever focus.
✅ FACT: ADHD'ers can ! ADHD isn't exactly a deficit in attention—it's more about regulating attention.

❌ MYTH: ADHD is a boy problem.
✅ FACT: Girls and women can have ADHD, but they're often diagnosed later than boys.

❌ MYTH: There's nothing good about ADHD.
✅ FACT: ADHD'ers have many strengths, and with the right supports, they can thrive.

At Lightwell Learning, we love the way engages learners with points, rewards, and competition. makes learning fun, but it's not a perfect method.

If you have a gamer and/or want to explore Gamified Learning, consider...

✅ Not relying only on games—pair games with explicit instruction
✅ Choosing games that encourage deep, strategic thinking
✅ Regularly checking up on your learners' progress
✅ Assigning games for home practice
✅ Considering non-digital games (eg., board games!)

Student Learning Plan (SLP)...or Individual Education Plan (IEP)? 📚🍎

These terms may sound similar, but there are important differences.

If you have a child who needs extra support and your school tells you that they need a "learning plan," ask:

💬 What type of plan is this, what will it help my child with, and how will we know if it's working?

Learn more: https://lightwelllearning.ca/articles/understanding-learning-plans-in-bc-slps-and-ieps/

*We prefer not to use these terms at Lightwell Learning; however, these are terms used by the province of British Columbia.
