As proud parents and grandparents themselves, Walt and Judi Weaver have so much compassion for children and youth with disabilities and complex health needs. They care deeply about helping BC families access health services and equipment that aren’t publicly funded or are difficult to access.

The Weaver family has supported Variety BC as donors and advocates for decades, and we’re so grateful for their commitment to creating more opportunities for kids and helping their parents feel supported.

“Knowing our contributions can provide practical assistance and bring a smile to a child’s face is deeply rewarding,” Walt says. “And it means a great deal to us that our adult children have embraced the same spirit of giving and are continuing the family tradition of helping improve the lives of children throughout British Columbia.”

Thank you to Walt and Judi and the whole Weaver family for advocating for Variety’s mission and inspiring others to show up for kids and families with such generosity and kindness. ❤

Ahoy, mateys! 🏴‍☠️

This past Saturday, Variety families spent the day cruising through False Creek, hunting for treasure, cooling off with water fights and playing games. ⚓💦💰

A massive thank you to our skippers, volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and Boat for Hope committee for making this adventure possible!

Long-time Variety supporter Gary Segal has a deep belief in giving back to his community, instilled in him by his parents.

“I have vivid memories of my parents being involved with Variety and watching the telethon with them when I was a teenager. They continued to tune in and pledge to the telethon throughout my adult years. Giving was deeply important to my father and mother, and that value has shaped our entire family.”

Gary’s parents Joe and Rosalie Segal were founding members of our BC chapter. They supported Variety for well over five decades, and through their generous legacy gift, their impact will continue for years to come. We want to thank Gary and the whole Segal family for leading with such compassion and generosity and motivating others to support Variety families.

“What I love most about being Jonathan’s dad is the deep bond we’ve built over his entire life. Jonathan has Angelman syndrome. I seem to be wired in just the right way to give him the love and the massive amount of patience required for his care, and seeing him thrive makes every bit of it worth it.

Knowing that complete strangers, especially other parents and grandparents who know what it’s like to love a child, are standing behind us is incredibly humbling. It’s a huge weight off my shoulders and a reminder that we aren't doing this alone.

My biggest hope is just that Jonathan is always happy, safe, and fully supported. I want him to keep growing in a world where he is secure, and to have every opportunity to live his life to the absolute fullest.”

Thank you to Paul for sharing what fatherhood means to him and the impact Variety donors have made for him and Jonathan. ❤

Colleen and Tim burst with pride for their daughter Grace. They want the best for her, including hoping she’ll become independent and have the freedom to do what she loves. Regular physio and speech therapy sessions are contributing to that future.

But Grace’s family and so many other BC families can’t sustain these significant medical costs on their own.

We’re grateful to work with so many compassionate providers like Carl Ganzert and the team at Hodgson Group - Orthotics & Prosthetics. They go out of their way to make sure families know about different funding options. Carl shared his insights on the impact that timely, affordable care has for kids and their families.
