Not long ago, Mavrik joined us for our Small is Mighty photo shoot, bringing his sweet smile, his love for his family and, of course, his passion for hockey.

Though he was only three years old, Mavrik made an incredible impact on everyone who knew his story. His strength brought people together, his smile filled rooms with joy and his love of the game inspired the hockey community to rally around him.

We are deeply saddened by Mavrik’s passing and are holding his parents, family, friends and community close in our hearts.

Mavrik’s story is a powerful reminder of what a community can be for a child and their family—showing up, rallying and refusing to let them face it alone. That spirit fuels our work, and it’s why we’ll keep pushing for better treatments and more options for every child facing a serious illness.

Mavrik, you showed us that being mighty isn’t about how big you are. It’s about the love, joy and courage you share with the world. Thank you.

After finishing cancer treatment and having his port removed, Oli celebrated with a trip to Disney World alongside his family. Since then, he’s been busy being a kid — moving up from Beavers to Cubs, doing gymnastics and playing lacrosse and baseball. And he’s already dreaming big, with plans to become a scientist one day.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Oli’s story is a glimpse of what can be possible with donor support; better treatments, brighter futures and more time for kids to simply be kids. Follow along this month as we share more stories of the progress donors help make possible for children facing cancer.

After being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 16 months old, Lilah has faced more than any kid should have to. For Miracle Treat Day, she got to head behind the counter to make Blizzard Treats with her parents and big brother Riley. 💙🍦

Thank you to everyone who visited a participating DQ and helped support children and families like Lilah’s who receive care at BC Children’s.

Miracle Treat Day was always personal for the Sekhon family. Then, it became life-changing.

For years, Amrit and Kirsten Sekhon supported BC Children’s through their Dairy Queen Canada restaurants. Last winter, that support took on a whole new meaning when their newborn son, Ayven, needed lifesaving heart surgeries in the first days of his life.

After experiencing the care at BC Children’s firsthand, the Sekhon family made a generous donation on top of significant funds raised through Miracle Treat Day in 2025. Their story shows what is possible when families, local businesses and communities across BC come together for kids.

On August 13, you can be part of that community of support. Visit a participating Dairy Queen and enjoy a Blizzard Treat, with proceeds helping support children and families receiving care at BC Children’s Hospital.

Bats for a Cause knocked it out of the park this year, raising over $130,000 for BC Children’s Hospital, a record breaking amount for the event. The 17th annual slo-pitch tournament brought 25 teams together in Kelowna, with this year’s champion, Isabella the Incredible, travelling from Nakusp with her family to share her journey through cancer.

Isabella was joined by Mira, the puppy she was promised during treatment, proudly wearing her own Small is Mighty shirt.

Thank you to every player, volunteer, donor and supporter who made this milestone possible.

Four years ago, donor support helped launch the Pediatric Critical Care Outreach program bringing a small team of ICU experts into communities across BC. By working alongside local health-care providers and sharing specialized skills, the team is helping critically ill children receive more of the care they need closer to home.

Thank you to the donors making this vital work possible.
