Canada is turning away the help it desperately needs.

Today, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship released Ready to Contribute, a new report on Canada’s credential recognition crisis.

Thousands of qualified doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, and other professionals are already here. Yet many remain unable to work in the professions Canada selected them to fill.

The result? Longer wait times, labour shortages, and missed opportunities for Canada.

Qualified help is already here. It’s time to let them contribute.

Canada’s immigration system should reward merit, not the ability to navigate unnecessary complexity.

In a recent interview with in Ottawa, ICC CEO Daniel Berhnhard spoke about how the complexity of the immigration system can leave applicants vulnerable to unethical consultants.

“An applicant’s probability of success has often more to do with their ability to navigate the immigration system strategically than it does with their merit.”

While many immigration consultants serve clients with integrity, others have taken advantage of a system that is difficult to understand and navigate. As the government introduces reforms to strengthen oversight, Daniel suggests that simplifying the immigration process itself is a critical part of the solution.

A fairer, more transparent system would reduce opportunities for abuse and ensure that newcomers are judged on their qualifications and contributions, not on their ability to decode bureaucracy.

At ICC, we believe Canada’s immigration system should be accessible, transparent, and equitable for everyone.

• Content Strategist (Marketing)
• Content Creator - Writing (Bilingual: ENG & FR)
• Product Manager
• Software Engineer
• Assistant Data Specialist
 
These roles are ideal for candidates interested in building skills in:

A week ago, we came together for the 2026 Canada’s Difference Makers Gala.

This year’s theme was Mumbai After Dark.

Catered by , the evening celebrated not only exceptional food and culture, but the immigrants and partnerships that make ICC’s work possible and leave Canada stronger.

To our donors, partners, supporters, and Canoo members: thank you for being part of such an incredible evening. Every conversation and every act of support helps newcomers across Canada build a stronger sense of belonging, leading to a stronger Canada.

Twenty years after becoming a Canadian citizen, Kumaran Nasesan’s journey reflects what dedication, leadership and belonging can build.

From arriving as a teenager fleeing conflict to becoming a business leader and community advocate, he embodies the strength newcomers bring to Canada.

His support for the ICC comes from lived experience: when immigrants are welcomed and supported, they help shape a stronger country for everyone.
