โญ Great news!
Weโre excited to partner with imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival for a special screening of What We Carry, preceded by the World Premiere of The Orange Flower.
What does reconciliation look like for the descendants of a residential school teacher?
In WHAT WE CARRY, Katrinka and her daughter Bracken open a trunk of memories belonging to Katrinkaโs mother, Jennifer Notley, an English school teacher who answers a call for a position at Desmarais (St. Martinโs) Residential School in Treaty 8 territory. Their discovery leads them on a journey to meet with community members of the Bigstone Cree Nation, many of whom attended St. Martinโs, as they seek a fuller understanding of the impacts of residential schools, and Jenniferโs place within that history.
Jessie Anthonyโs debut documentary feature provides a fresh perspective on reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, with many challenging but much needed discourses on privilege, accountability, and healing.
Preceding the feature is THE ORANGE FLOWER, a poignant short film by Selah Rayne that explores the legacy of residential schools through the eyes of a child.
