Rooftops Canada joined more than 40,000 housing practitioners and policymakers from around the world at the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Under this year's theme, Housing the World, the forum brought urgent attention to one of the defining challenges of our time: the housing crisis - and the need for more inclusive and sustainable financing solutions to address it at scale.

A Loran Scholar and second-year student at Queen’s University, JoyGold brings a strong commitment to community impact and a keen interest in global politics and sustainable development. Please join us in welcoming Celestina Arubike, Rooftops Canada's new Finance and Operations Manager!

After beginning her career in the private sector, Celestina made a purposeful transition to the not-for-profit sector more than a decade ago, driven by a passion for mission-driven work and community impact. She brings extensive experience in financial management, organizational operations, and strategic leadership.

As Finance and Operations Manager, Celestina is leading the systems and functions that help power Rooftops Canada's programs, partnerships, and mission.

We're thrilled to have Celestina on board and look forward to the expertise and leadership she brings to our team.

We spoke with Brian Odella, an urban planner specialized in physical planning. Brian works with Rooftops Canada’s partner Shelter and Settlements Alternatives (SSA) on the Women’s Spaces project. He shared his insights on the land and housing challenges faced by women in Uganda, the impact of the project, and his role as a physical planner within the Women's Spaces project.

We will be hosting a roundtable titled, “The Foundation for Prosperity: Secure Housing as a Catalyst for Economic Growth and Social Inclusion.”

It took just $15/month over the course of a year to help Deborah in Uganda secure rights to her land.

Deborah was living on land that she had no proof of legal claim. Like many women in the countries where we work, she could have been forced out at any time.

With support from Rooftops Canada and our local partner, her land was surveyed and an application submitted. She was granted a legal certificate proving it’s hers. Now she has security—and an asset a bank will recognize.

Rooftops Canada looks forward to participating in the 2026 Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA) National Congress on Housing and Homelessness, taking place in St. John’s, NL, April 20–22.

Together with our partner Dorothy Baziwe, from Shelter and Settlements Alternatives Uganda (SSA), we’ll engage with leaders from across Canada’s community housing sector to share insights, explore innovations, and learn from one another.
