Regional Multicultural Youth Council, our IYCFF 2025 grantee, shared this beautiful documentary, Where the Crows Gather, which highlights the Indigenous youth work taking place in Thunder Bay. โก๏ธ
It speaks to the importance of community-based programming, featuring youth voices reflecting on cultural initiatives, what they consider safe spaces, and how these programs have positively impacted their lives. Laidlaw Indigenous advisor Eternity is also featured in the film, alongside Moffat from Regional Multicultural Youth Council, who shares a few words as well. ๐ฆ
The Indigenous youth in the documentary share:
โThere are two ways to see a place: through stigma or through strength. Weโre tired of Thunder Bay being defined by an outsider narrative, so weโve decided to tell a different story. There are youth out there who are building community, creating safer spaces, and showing up for one another every day. Indigenous youth, in particular, are shaping the city in ways that donโt always make the newsโthrough mentorship, cultural reconnection, and choosing to stay and invest in where they live. This documentary follows the people who see the city not just as a place with challenges, but as homeโa place worth building, protecting, and growing.โ
