Asian Heritage Month in Canada is celebrated annually in May. The Power Workers' Union acknowledges the opportunity to learn and encourage meaningful dialogue about the achievements of Asian Canadians, and the legacy of their contributions.

Its’s also a time recognize and celebrate the rich history and reflect on the resilience of Asian culture in our Unions, neighbourhoods and workplaces across Canada.

This message was issued by the PWU Diversity Committee.

Every year on April 28th the Power Workers’ Union remembers our co-workers, our family members and our friends who have lost their lives, suffered a life-changing injury; or endured a disease due to workplace hazards.

Today, on the National Day of Mourning, we take a moment to pay our respects to those who have suffered.🕊️💛

With everyone’s commitment to support a safe workplace, The PWU supports and encourages all members to utilize their rights, and together, we will continue to work until all preventable workplace safety incidents that injure or kill workers are eliminated.

We will continue to advocate for not only physically safe workplaces, but psychologically safe workplaces, because one injury, one illness, or one fatality is one too many.

The PWU released an opinion editorial today in the Globe and Mail titled, Toronto’s Third Transmission Line is too Important for a Procurement Experiment.

The editorial speaks to how the Toronto Third Transmission line is a major infrastructure project that will play a key role in maintaining reliability and supporting the city’s continued growth and electrification, but should be owned, maintained and operated by Hydro One, who support ongoing system reliability, long-term investment, and stable, highly skilled union jobs across the sector.

The PWU’s position is clear: a project of this scale and importance should strengthen Ontario’s publicly accountable transmission system — not be used as a test case for a new and unproven procurement approach that could introduce added risk, delays, and unnecessary complexity.

Designating Hydro One to develop and operate the line would help ensure it is integrated seamlessly into the existing grid, delivered efficiently, and continues to provide long-term value here in Ontario.
