The final sessions of the 2026 UFCW Canada Young Workers Internship Program brought young activists together in Calgary and Saint-Sauveur for a week of learning, leadership development, solidarity, and action.

From workplace rights and organizing to equity and activism, participants gained new skills, shared experiences, and strengthened their commitment to building stronger workplaces and communities.

Since 2000, YIP has helped hundreds of UFCW members grow into confident workplace leaders, organizers, and advocates.

Extreme heat is a workplace health and safety issue.

For workers who spend long hours outdoors, work in hot environments or perform physically demanding jobs, heat stress can lead to serious illness — and in severe cases, heat stroke can be fatal.

Workers need:
• Access to water
• Regular opportunities to rest and cool down
• Proper training and acclimatization
• Workplace heat assessments and response plans
• Strong protections from extreme heat

Know the warning signs and look out for your co-workers. A person experiencing heat stroke may not recognize what is happening to them. Quick action, cooling and emergency medical attention can save a life.

Migrant workers in Windsor-Essex connected with UFCW Canada, health-care professionals and community organizations at the Caribbean Community Fair in Leamington, Ontario.

The event brought together workers and community partners to share information about workplace rights, health and safety, union support and important community resources.

UFCW Canada has had a strong presence in Leamington for more than two decades, including through the UFCW Canada Agriculture Workers Support Centre, which has helped tens of thousands of workers access support and protect their rights.
