Our almost 4,000 members work in government, private practice, universities, and non-profit agencies in the fields of urban and rural development, urban design, environmental planning, transportation, health social services, heritage conservation, housing, and economic development. Our Members meet strict practice requirements and are accountable to OPPI and the public to practice ethically and to abide by a Professional Code of Practice. Only Full Members are authorized by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Act, 1994, to use the title “Registered Professional Planner” (or “RPP”).

🏆 PlanON Vision Award of Merit — Town of Fort Erie Climate Change Action Plan

The Town of Fort Erie Climate Change Action Plan provides a coordinated approach to climate adaptation, resilience, infrastructure and sustainable growth.

A 2026 PlanON juror recognized the project as a model that other smaller municipalities can learn from, particularly for the way it connects climate planning with municipal operations.

Edward Terry, a member of the winning team, noted that the award is a meaningful recognition from peers and reflects the contributions of the colleagues, mentors and teams who helped advance the work.

🏆 PlanON Vision Award of Excellence — City of Ottawa: New Comprehensive Zoning By-law

The City of Ottawa’s new Comprehensive Zoning By-law represents a significant modernization of the city’s regulatory framework while responding to major public-interest challenges including housing, climate change and future growth.

Carol Ruddy described the project as a “generational opportunity” to update a sixty-year-old regulatory framework.

John Lunney emphasized the “immense effort” of the planners and supporting professionals behind the work, while Robert Sandercott highlighted the project as a major accomplishment in land-use legislation at a time of rapidly changing provincial regulations.
