Happy March Forth & Do Something Day!

Today is an annual, unofficial, and pun-filled holiday to encourage people to stop procrastinating and take action toward their goals. It serves as a motivational reminder to "march forth" with confidence, start new projects, or make positive changes.

What will you do to march forth? Will it be to finish a project, or start a new project. The options are endless.

Time to reach your goals! Let John Howard Society of New Brunswick, Fundy Region Inc. help you!

This February, the John Howard Society of New Brunswick, Fundy Region Inc. is proud to recognize Black History Month in New Brunswick. We honor the rich history, resilience, and enduring contributions of Black New Brunswickers, past and present, who have shaped our province's culture, society, and economy. As we celebrate, we also commit to learning, listening and taking action against systemic inequalities to build a more inclusive community.

Although we have made efforts to be as inclusive as possible over the years, in 2025 we adopted a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement.

Creating an effective, just, and humane response to confronting crime requires a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization. We are committed to building an organization that provides a respectful and equitable environment for all.

Thank you, everyone! Our 2025 Christmas Giving was a great success!

Here at the John Howard Society of New Brunswick, Fundy Region Inc. we like to make our most vulnerable members of our community feel included and welcome. One way of doing this is to let them know we are thinking of them during the holidays with our Christmas Giving backpacks. The contributions by our Board of Directors and our staff make this possible.

Thanks to Jill, the Manager at Giant Tiger in the Prince Edward Square Mall, we were able to include soft, warm throws in our backpacks this year. They donated 20 throws as seen in the photo. I am not sure about you, but I love to wrap up in a throw and just relax at the end of the day. Thank you, Jill!

Also posted is a photo of our staff contribution at our annual Kids' Christmas Party. This year their donations went to both to our backpacks and to our pantry which is accessed by our most vulnerable members of our community throughout the year.

Thank you to each and every person who contributed to making our most vulnerable members of our community feel included.

Happy Human Rights Day!!

December 10th marks the anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948, a foundational document for global human rights, emphasizing inherent rights like equality, freedom of speech, and life, liberty, and security for all people regardless of background. It serves as a global call to action for promoting dignity, justice, and equality, with themes often focusing on connecting these universal principles to daily life. The 2025 theme is "Our Everyday Essentials," highlighting access to food, housing, and participation in community.

Here at the John Howard Society of New Brunswick, Fundy Region Inc., we try to practice Human Rights on a daily basis within our program services and our day to day practices.

Today is Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a counterpart to consumer-focused holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and it serves as the official kick-off to the end of the year giving season. Its purpose is to promote generosity and encourage people to do good.

How can you contribute to Giving Tuesday?

You could donate money or goods to various places (example: non-profit organizations who are committed to helping our vulnerable population within our communities, food banks, etc.).

You could perform random acts of kindness for neighbors or strangers (example: pay for the coffee of the person behind you in the Tim Hortons drive thru, drop a snack at their door, etc.).

What will you do for 2025's Giving Tuesday?

Art created by Carla, our C.A.E.C. (formerly G.E.D.) Instructor, and her students.

Over the summer, Carla and her students went on field trips to various areas to help refresh themselves while learning, and collected sea glass.

Later they had art class Fridays to create the beautiful work you see posted here with the sea glass they hand collected.

Just like the first photo reads, "Slow and steady wins the race." You may feel like your learning is taking forever, but you will get there in no time with your dedication.

Keep it up, everyone! You're doing great!

Thank you for sharing with us!
